Just for the record (I can't imagine many people will be in the same situation, but still warrants mentioning)...
ARGENT TOURNAMENT PROGRESS IS SAVED PER FACTION.
This means that if you switch from Alliance to Horde, then back to Alliance, your Argent Tournament progress will be precisely how you left it when you switched the first time.
In other words, the maximum amount of times a single character will ever have to grind this achievement will be twice - once on the Alliance side, and once on Horde side. After that, switching won't lose you Argent Tournament progress.
