Vanity pets owned

This is the number of unique pet your character learned, from an actual item (not the battlepet type object). Character bound.
Thing to note : recently, some pets like promotional pets gets directly added, without getting counted on this particular counter. GMs won't agree to remove the entry and send back the non caged version of the pet, for those who want to increase this stat.

2022 Update: in 2022, this counter got completely broken. If you cared about increasing this stat, and didn't know which pet you learned, your progression is lost. They don't seem to care.

2024 Update: If someone from blizzard reads me, I think you shall just make it the number of unique pets on your account, and rename that into "unique battle pets owned" or something. The counter is just beyond broken otherwise.
