These PvP tier lists rank specs by how many of their players sit in the top 10% of each rated ladder in PvP Season 42. They cover Solo Shuffle and Battleground Blitz: 286,683 ladder entries across US and EU. Ladder data last refreshed October 5, 2026 at 22:10 UTC.

What the ladders say right now

Solo Shuffle: Discipline Priest is the most represented healer above the rating line, with 32.1% of the role (2,116 players).
Solo Shuffle: Retribution Paladin is the most represented DPS above the rating line, with 13.3% of the role (1,619 players).
Battleground Blitz: Discipline Priest is the most represented healer above the rating line, with 32.0% of the role (854 players).
Battleground Blitz: Retribution Paladin is the most represented DPS above the rating line, with 12.9% of the role (916 players).

187,745 ladder entries. Rating line (top 10%): 2,065 in EU and 2,025 in US.

Tank specs are not ranked here: only 23 of 1,432 tank-spec ladder entries clear the rating line, under our minimum of 30.

Not in our ladder data this season, so not ranked: Blood Death Knight, Frost Death Knight, Unholy Death Knight, Havoc Demon Hunter, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Devourer Demon Hunter. This is a gap in our crawl, not a sign those specs are absent from PvP.

Brackets we do not rank

2v2 Arena, 3v3 Arena, Rated Battlegrounds: the ladder data for these brackets lists characters but not the spec they played, so a spec ranking would be a guess. We leave them out rather than guess.

How we rank

For each bracket and region, find the rating that marks the top 10% of the ladder entries we hold. That is the rating line.
Count each spec's players at or above the line and add US and EU together.
Role share = that count divided by all players of the role at or above the line.
Index = role share times the number of specs in the role that our data holds (1.00 = an even split).
Tier by index: S at 2 or more, A at 1.3 or more, B at 0.8 or more, C at 0.4 or more, D below 0.4.
A role with fewer than 30 players above the line is not ranked, and the page says so. A spec under that count inside a ranked role is marked small sample.

What this does not measure

Representation is not strength. A popular spec can be popular because it is easy, fun or well known, and a strong spec can be rare because few people play it.
Top players pick what top players already pick. Group finders and streamer builds push the same specs into high keys week after week.
Ratings move slowly. A spec buffed today climbs the ladder over days, so this list lags any tuning change even though the data is fresh.
Ladder ratings mix skill, time played and queue luck. A spec with few players can post a high top rating from one great player.
The ladder lists characters, not people. One player with several characters of the same spec counts more than once.
