Where you hear it
cthundeathisclose.ogg is one of the whispers of C'Thun, the Old God imprisoned beneath the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj, which opened in patch 1.9. During the raid, C'Thun sends whispers to random players as both chat text and voice, so only some people hear each line. 'Death is close' is the best known of the set and became shorthand for the encounter's brutality. The voice is deep, slow and distorted, unlike any mortal speaker. It runs a little over four seconds.
TriggerOne of the Old God C'Thun's whispers, sent to players in the Temple of Ahn'Qiraj.

Alarm
As an alarm, C'Thun: Death Is Close (mastered near -15.6 LUFS) has a voice that is hard to sleep through, and it loops without a gap until you are up.
