How to Set a WoW Sound as an Android Notification Sound

Step by step: use a World of Warcraft sound as your Android ringtone, notification sound or alarm, with notes for Pixel and Samsung phones.

Android accepts ordinary MP3 files as ringtones, notification sounds and alarms, so the MP3 download on each sound page is all you need. Menu names differ a little between phone makers. The steps follow a Pixel running a recent version of Android, with the Samsung names noted where they differ.

  1. Open the page for the sound you want, for example the quest complete chime, and tap Download MP3. Chrome saves it to the Download folder on the phone.
  2. Open Settings and tap Sound & vibration. On a Samsung phone the menu is called Sounds and vibration.
  3. Tap Phone ringtone for calls, or Default notification sound for alerts. Samsung lists these as Ringtone and Notification sound.
  4. Tap My sounds, then the + button. On Samsung, scroll to the bottom of the list and tap the + button there.
  5. The file picker opens. Go to Downloads, tap the MP3 you saved, and confirm. The sound now appears in the list and is selected.
  6. To use it as an alarm, open the Clock app, tap the alarm, tap its sound, and add the file the same way from Your sounds.

Individual apps can carry their own sound. In Settings, open Notifications, then App notifications, pick an app such as Discord or Messages, open a notification category, and set its sound. This is a good way to make guild chat pings sound different from everything else on the phone.

If the file does not appear in the picker, open the Files app and check that it finished downloading and still ends in .mp3. Some phones only list files kept in the Ringtones, Notifications or Alarms folders, so moving the MP3 into the Notifications folder with the Files app fixes that case. Short clips work best as notification sounds; longer pieces suit a ringtone or alarm because the phone loops them until you answer.
