It is worth noting that prospecting Rank 2 ore usually yields Rank 2 gems, except at times when I would get an inspiration proc. Rank 3 always yielded Rank 3 gems, but this heavily depends on where you've spent your Knowledge points. Also, please note that the sample size probably isn't high enough a the numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.
