Just a word of advice to those wanting to get the mount and holiday achieve. While to most this will be common sense, go for the mount AFTER you get the holiday achievement. Reason being that you do have the chance for it to drop in one of the eggs. While it may be a small chance, there is always a chance.

I'm not sure what the drop rate is on this mount, but I was VERY fortunate to have gotten the mount out of an egg within the first 20 of them that I picked up this year on Easter Sunday afternoon in Razor Hill. I'm still in shock! It took me close to an hour to gather up those 20 eggs along with several others who were zipping around me like I was standing still. (I'm no spring chicken anymore!) At that rate, I theorize it could take the average person approximately 25 hours (give or take 3-6 hours to skill, timing, etc) to collect 500 chocolate eggs! That's a lot of time and work, folks!

So if the cost of this mount is 500 chocolate eggs, and you're an average Joe, gathering 500 eggs equates to many many hours of gathering eggs during peak hours. My suggestion to everyone is to farm for eggs during the late night, weekday hours of the week when most others are asleep and have work or school the next morning. That alone could help you shave off many hours of egg collecting with fierce competition all around you. And check around in each of the cities where your faction can collect eggs. Some spots are not as busy as others.

Just confirmed you CAN get it when picking up eggs & opening them up. After 257 picks, I picked one up when I opened up an egg.

update: 10 minutes later, I picked up ANOTHER springstrider. So the 1st one was not a fluke at all.
