Remember when you reached Rank 11 (Commander/Lieutenant General) not only could you purchase those very "rare" PvP mounts that everyone has now, but you could join the World Defense channel! I bet not many people remember that!
It wasn't about kills, it was about honor gained. For instance, there was always a premade PvP group ALL day most everyday of the week. This group had a select person (on organized realms) for who would be getting #1 in honor until they reached HWL / GM. Usually, if you were persistent and always hit #1 for honor gain, depending on server it was usually about 400 - 500k honor per week, you would move up quickly through ranks 1-10, however at 11-14, the honor required was quite a bit more. I can't remember the number, but 12 took 2 weeks, 13 took 3 and from 13-14 took nearly a month, 3 weeks to
