A rather obscure reference to Rowan of Rin, a children's novel released in Australia. Rowan is a young shepherd who goes on many adventures and becomes the hero of his villange after overcoming many arduous adventures annnnd apparently he's none too content with simply tending to his flock anymore..

While the flavor text does suggest that it is named after the shepard, Rowan, the player, was honored like many others with an ingame item. Since this is the -only- item with the name "Rowan" in it, is it a high chance that this is "his" item. And do save the names for thotbot.

That's interesting, except for where modern bullets are hardly ever just lead, unless we're talking about old muzzle-loaders, or even blackpowder. More modern weaponry's bullets reach velocities where lead shots aren't really all that effective, and are generally reinforced into an alloy, or in some cases, jacketed with a different material entirely - copper's very common. Lead's mostly appreciated for its ease of shaping, and its density, for additional bullet mass. So, really, my point stands, and I can't see why it's being downrated. Mostly I'm upset nobody liked the golden gun reference

Excuse me chaps but all Werewolves should not be associated with Twilight, I for one still love them in the original sense not the preteen SHAPESHIFTER types seen in the cruddy movies. I still like my Werewolves brutal and feral as well as looking more humanoid.

For many warrior tanks, this is a direct upgrade from the throwing weapon you buy from the triumph badge vendor. The only difference is that is doesn't have defense, but assuming you are in t9+, you should already be having plenty of defense not to worry about it.

This drops in both ICC25 and ICC10 trash.

Finally a ranged weapon that isn't a noticeable downgrade in stamina compared to ye olde Armor Plated Combat Shotgun. A good spread of avoidance and hit rating, plus the bit of strength. Quite nice.
"But even having seen the stat bonuses and attack speed, it's still not completely undesirable. It goes without saying that using this, you're going to be hitting the global cooldown cap, especially if you're BM with serpent's swiftness."
In the interest of correcting inaccuracy: The "global cooldown cap", or haste cap, has absolutely nothing to do with weapon speed. It is referring to the casting time of Steady Shot. Basically, you gain full benefit from haste up until your Steady Shot reaches a 1.5s casting time, then it only helps your Auto Shot DPS. Since Steady Shot's casting speed is completely unrelated to weapon speed, the only things affecting your haste cap are Haste, the base 15% boost hunters get, Rapid Fire, and talents, particularly Serpent's Swiftness (which brings you to the cap all on it's own) and IAotH. None of which have anything to do with this gun. Insofar as I am aware, there is no lower limit on Auto Shot speed. I've knocked it down to about .5 previously and seen my character acting like a machine gun.

Wait, how is damage calculated in WoW. Several of the statements above make no sense to me. If a weapon does, say 100 damage with each shot (I'm assuming that is what the 406-665 is, damage per shot [note: I KNOW this is NOT what dps means above]) and then fires every 2 seconds, and another does 100 damage with each shot but only fires every 3 seconds then over the course of 1 minute, weapon 1 would do (100 x 30 = ) 3000 damage whle weapon 2 would do only (100 x 20 = ) 2000. This would give weapon 1 (the fast one) a higher damage per second. Now why is MORE dps bad for a hunter?

159525+3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

The DPS calculation for white damage is exactly as you posted, Shador. The thing is a lot of hunter shots rely on high base damage for greater benefit; Higher base weapon damage plus a slower speed equals a higher AP coefficient and ammo coefficient. Multi, Aimed, Steady, Chimera all use weapon damage as their base statistic- it's why the Felglacier Bolter is the pre-ICC and pre-TotGC heroic 25 weapon to get for hunters- It's very slow speed (3.0) actually make it's damage per shot higher than the Death's Head Crossbow, non-heroic (2.8). The reason why this could be a possible item to get is i

To reply to Lobstrosity: No, actually. As Marksman, Autoshot is our highest damage shot. Much like rogue white damage. To reply to Kimba: But you're saying that all our instants are normalized... If you utilize an addon that shows your average damage per cast you can see the differences in damage. Arcane, Explosive, Scatter, and more are all not normalized. Slower in general simply helps us.

You guys ranting about only huntards using this gun for DPS should calm down a bit and go spreadsheet things using current gear. 2pcT10 is very good and very very easy to attain currently, and while this gun's stats are non-existent and its speed means weak aimed/chimera/kill shots, the higher attack speed dramatically boosts uptime on the set bonus; that coupled with iLvl 264 base DPS make it quite a good ranged weapon if you can't snag an actual 264 ranged weapon (of which only one is available for the next month or two). My uptime on 2pc T10 with a 2.8 speed weapon is around 25%. If I equipped this gun, my uptime would go up to 34% - given that the set bonus is a flat 15% increase to all my damage while up, this equates to around 2% passive overall DPS gain. That makes it significantly better than all 245 ranged weapons, and on par with the 251 ICC10 bow.

I don't disagree that it'd be better used on a tank, and it's still quite a lot worse than a real 264 ranged weapon, but that hardly makes it pure huntard fodder - if someone wants to buy it because they have gold to blow and no 251 or 264 weapon, it's a good weapon, and a large DPS upgrade over anything else.

alienangel+29via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Why would I need to "mention" steadyshot? The numbers I'm quoting aren't just opinions and guestimates, they're the results the spreadsheet models, for these weapons, and there's no particular reason to doubt them in this case because they make sense. Slightly lower damage on already normalized shots doesn't make up for the massive base DPS difference between a 232 and a 264 weapons, or the massive increase in uptime of a 15% damage buff (which affects you and your pet). And you're an idiot if you think steady shot loses any damage, steady shot is perfectly normalized to weapon DPS, more so t

Saying this gun should be bought only by tanks on account of the stats is as biased as saying this gun is a Hunter weapon on account of the raw DPS. In fact, since no other gun, bows or x-bows above ilvl 200 are available by any means outside of raids, I'd say the Hunters have the roughest time upgrading that gear slot. Tanks, at least, can get the Blades of the Sable Cross (ilvl 245) for real cheap. The gun is hardly a necessity to them. As long as we all agree that Tanks should have priority when the gun drops in the raid, this gun is AH fair game for any player to which it represents a s

sihyunie+11via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

On the contrary, simulations has it ranked above all of the ilvl 245 weapons and some simulation has it ranked even close to ilvl 264 weapons. The 2pc bonus is absurdly good, and increasing its uptime is well worth whatever damage you lose on your special shots (2% damage when you are doing 8k dps is very hard to overcome with just stats and small increase in weapon damage). This of course varies with specific specs (since MM uses more weapon damage based attacks) and race (well just dwarves).

Hornhide+16via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Stamina is useful to any PvP character and for my Hunter this gun represents a white damage increase of 125DPS. I wouldn't deny that this has tank stats, but DPS is > all, besides which, as it's currently changing hands on the AH, why are the Tanktards complaining?

Kimba+10via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

What you fail to understand is that between a fast and a slow weapon of equivalent DPS, the slow weapon will always win because of how instant shots are calculated.
Currently, the normalized weapon damage for instant attacks is: normalized_damage = base_weapon_damage + (X * Attack Power / 14) where X is: # 1.7 for daggers # 2.4 for other one-handed weapons # 3.3 for two-handed weapons # 2.8 for ranged weapons
-Taken from wow wiki So as you can see, only the attack power part of the calculation is normalized. Thus, the higher the base weapon damage, the higher your instant shots are going to hit for. Now, that's for instant attacks (chimera shot, aimed shot, etc). For pure auto-shot purposes, this is one of the best gun for a hunter since its DPS is high. But a slower ilvl 264 gun would be a DPS increase for a hunter because instant shots would hit a lot harder.

Kimba+11via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I can't tell you the exact numbers, but I know that this weapon is an upgrade over anything 232 and lower for sure. No question about it. I'm assuming a slow ivl 245 ranged weapon is where the lines start to blur. With a slow 245 weapon you'd do better instant shot damage, but worse auto-shot. If you have 2pcT10, then bump it all up a notch ie you'd need a slow 251 ilvl +. That's pure gut feelings, I haven't done the math, but it's easy to calculate, just look a few posts up on how instant shot damage is calculated and plug in your numbers.

282039+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Even with the Felglacier Bolter, you'll do better instant damage and worse auto-shot damage. Considering how easy that is to get, I'd say this probably isn't worth the investment. You gain about 60 dps from the faster auto shot (more at higher crit chance) and lose damage in every single other category.

282039-1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Ignoring the disrespect shown by a lack of even the most common of proofreading skills, let's address the meat of your claims.

1) You really think an extra 1.55% avoidance will save your butt?

2) Wild quiver gains nothing from speed. It works out as a flat 9.6% increase to your auto shot damage. A slow weapon that does the same DPS functions just as well for Wild Quiver, so you're espousing the same argument as everyone previously that "it has a higher ilvl, it must be better!"

3) Volley gains nothing at all from weapon speed, at least from every bit of research I'm able to find.

I'd say you're acting as a perfect example of what people mean by "Huntard". Someone who pretends knowledge but spouts opinion, then takes to insulting others when they come along and legitimately say "you're wrong".

This isn't a college philosophy class, there aren't multiple right answers. Saying something is better just because you wish it worked that way doesn't make it so. This is a bad weapon for hunters, any hunter who equips it does have a surplus of gold and a lack of common sense, and the purpose of this website is to provide correct and useful information to those of us who actually care enough about our performance to work towards maximizing it.

Frankly, if that doesn't describe you, go away. Don't come here spouting about how "everyone has the right to play how they want" because, while that is the case, we also have every right to tell you you're being stupid if we provide math and you disregard it. Our intent here isn't to debate the meaning of truth, it's not to hold your hand and tell you "there are no wrong decisions", it's to provide information that is of the greatest benefit to the people who actually care about playing the game well.

In this case, that information is:

There is an ilvl 232 weapon that you can get for FREE that is better than this weapon. It's not itemized for hunters, and no amount of wishful thinking will change that fact.

This item has a Chance to drop. Chance. High % or Low % does not mean that it will ever drop, and furthermore, simply because your Group got 2 to drop in 1 run does not mean anyone else had that happen. A Guildmate of mine got 2 Hilts in one run the other night. Never heard of that happening before. Loot is a chance to drop. 264 Idols, Librams, and Totems will eventually be achieved, so long as the Character continues to get badges. His frustration with having to hope for a Gun to drop is valid, as you

alienangel+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Whether that's a good thing or not depends on how you look at - our warriors are pretty happy that they both got their 264 ranged slot for free the day the instance opened (one off morrogar trash, other other off gunship trash) without having to spend any emblems of frost - the pally tank still doesn't have a 264 libram, and presumably won't until she's bought a lot of other 264 stuff with badges first.

eschient+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

The is a BOE item. It doesn't even need to drop for you, it can drop for any Joe Blow and it'll turn up on the AH faster than the average player can get around to badging up to a relic item. As a paladin tank, I'd be more than happy to be able to buy my libram upgrade from the Auction and use my badges for more vital upgrades. Especially if it meant getting stats out the wazoo or all the other bonuses that relics don't carry. So yeah, I'll take this kind of "luck" over "easy to earn" any day, since money is a lot easier to earn than badges.

Wenduri+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Our Guild's Main Tank received this in trash on our way to Putricide this evening. Thank GOD there's no defense. We were all very pleased with that, will be excellent for any Warrior looking to get some Dodge and Parry directly rather than through Defense.

Furthermore, a side not, we noticed a discussion in Trade chat last night that this item sold the previous night for 14k gold, and without hesitation. It was a buyout price listed 15 minutes before the purchaser bought it out. If your Guild happens to not have a Warrior Tank in it's midst, then congrats to your Guild Bank fund. Another one sold tonight for 11k.

*edit* I'm glad we're all just downranking information without replying to give a retort. I thought this was WoWHead, not Thottbot. Can we please be constructive?

im sick of all the Anti hunter hate speech on this item this does TWICE as much DPS as a Nesingwary 4000. (Rowan=255 nesingwary=129) Sure it doesn't have hunter stats, but still! it does TWICE the dmg of the nesignwary. that alone makes up for the stats and each individual hit is STILL WAY MORE than the 4000, even tho its kinda fast. (Nesingwary) 254-472 (Rowans Rifle) 406-665 sure alot of lvl 230-350 weapons are better, but this is the only one thats BoE, and easy to get right at 80. Its THE best BoE ranged weapon u will ever find. if u have the money and a hunter that just hit 80, get it. however, if u already have a 232 weapon or better, i wouldn't recommend it

Why has this turned into a discussion about this guns viability for hunters and what itll do for their dps? I may aswell do a search for the crafted 264 plate tanking boots, and discuss what itll do for my priest. I will say again for the people who didnt get it the other 10 times it was stated here: THIS IS NOT,EVER WAS,EVER INTENDED TO BE,OR EVER WILL BE A HUNTER WEAPON The only similarity this thing has with hunter weapons is that it shoots bullets, all it will do is gimp a hunters dps unless theyve got some #$%^ poor quest item weap in the slot. And to any hunter who paid gold for this thing.....delete your character, cancel your account, and have a good hard think about what you have done. I dont understand how you could not learn the stats you need in 80 levels of questing.
