WoW Forever beta items: legendaries, 551 new epics and a new stat layout
Items in the WoW Forever beta client build 1.60.1.70009: new stat weights on Thunderfury, Sulfuras and Atiesh, 551 new epics including 292 Premier PvP pieces, and what changed.
The item list in the WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70009, has 31,818 entries. The Classic Era client, build 1.15.9.69722, has 24,973. Of the beta client's items, 6,858 are new, 13 are gone and 7,925 changed in some way. This post covers three parts of that: the legendaries, the new epics, and a change to how item stats are stored.
The biggest change: stat weights
Items have a set of stat weight slots. On 2,994 items that exist in both clients, those slots are empty in Era and filled in on the beta client. That is the most common item change in the whole comparison. At the same time, 1,806 items have changed stat types: 1,660 list more stat types than in Era, 3 list fewer, and 143 keep the same number but swap which stats they list.
What that looks like in practice: in Era, most items only list their main stats (Strength, Agility, Stamina and so on) in the item's own stat list. In the beta client, the same items also list resistances, ratings and spell power there, each with a weight.
These weights are relative numbers, not the stat values you see on a tooltip. The client stores them; how the game turns them into final stats is not something we can see from the files.
Legendaries
The beta client has 36 legendary quality rows in its item data (one of them a placeholder), against 51 in Era. 16 Era legendaries do not show up as legendary in the beta data. 15 of those have item ids above 227,000. They include versions of Sulfuras, Thunderfury and Atiesh with those higher ids, plus items such as Vessel of Rebirth, Dormant Wind Kissed Blade, Lightforged Iron, Hilt of the Ashbringer, Corrupted Ashbringer, Ashbringer and two Ruined Lightforged Blades. The last is Andonisus, Reaper of Souls. The beta client also carries fewer full item detail rows overall (19,224 against Era's 24,442), which may explain part of the gap. We have not confirmed that yet.
Here is what changed on the ones players know:
Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker. Era lists Agility and Stamina. The beta client lists Agility, Stamina, Fire Resistance and Nature Resistance, with weights of 2,174, 3,478, 3,478 and 3,913.
Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. Era lists Strength and Stamina. The beta client adds Fire Resistance. Weights: 2,222 Strength, 2,222 Stamina, 5,556 Fire Resistance.
Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian. All four class versions (item level 90, level 60 to use) gain stat entries:
- The first version adds Hit and Spell Power to Stamina, Intellect and Spirit, with Spell Power weighted at 25,424.
- The second adds Critical Strike and Spell Power to Stamina and Intellect, again with Spell Power at 25,424.
- The third adds Spell Power (20,339) and stat code 41 (30,508). Our item decoder does not name code 41 yet.
- The fourth adds only stat code 41, with 50,847 of weight on it.
Talisman of Binding Shard and Fragment. Both add Fire Resistance and Nature Resistance, at 7,742 each.
Shard of the Defiler. Era lists no stats at all. The beta client gives it Haste (71,429) and Critical Strike (100,000).
Eye of Sulfuras changes item subclass. Outside the legendary list,
Band of Sulfuras gets weights for its existing stats (7,667, 3,333 and 4,333).
The beta client also has one brand new legendary quality row, but it is a placeholder, so we are not counting it.
551 new epics
The beta client adds 554 epic quality items. Three of them are not real gear: one item named "Placeholder", a crafted tier piece placeholder and an internal tabard used for quality checks. That leaves 551. Most of them fall into one group.
Premier PvP gear: 292 epics. Every one is item level 65 and needs level 60. They use the PvP rank titles from both factions: Warlord's, General's, Legionnaire's, Marshal's, High Warlord's, Centurion's and Champion's make up most of them, plus single pieces for titles like Field Marshal's, Knight-Captain's and Grand Marshal's. Examples: Premier Warlord's Magus Cowl, Premier General's Magus Trousers, Premier High Warlord's Blade. There are also 245 rare quality Premier pieces at item level 60, needing level 55.
Other item level 65 epics: 38 more. These include Theramore Gauntlets, Theramore Handwraps, Theramore Pauldrons, Raider Gauntlets, Raider Handwraps and Darkspear Pauldrons, plus idols, a libram, a totem and named pieces like Elderwild and Evergreen items. All 330 item level 65 epics need level 60.
Item level 60 to 62. 42 epics at item level 60, including a run of belts (Penitent's Cinch, Assassin's Waistguard, Shifter's Belt, Ranger's Belt, Stormseeker's Girdle, Windseeker's Belt and more) and four Watcher's Signet rings. 17 epics at item level 61 include Champion's Legplates, Breastplate of Salvation, Timbermaw Tunic and a four piece Spiritcaller set (Kilt, Gloves, Mantle, Boots).
The highest item level new epics are Demonic Gauntlet and Goo-Covered Demonic Gauntlet, both item level 71.
153 new epics are item level 1. Many are cosmetic, like the Lordaeron Forever Tabard and the Shen'dorei tabard and outfit pieces.
Across the new epics at item level 55 and up, the most common stats are Stamina (336 items), Intellect (229), Spell Power (113), Critical Strike (100) and Strength (97).
