WoW Forever beta: all 9 talent trees decoded from the client

All 9 WoW Forever class talent trees read from the beta client build 1.60.1.70009: 7 rows, 3 tabs, point gates every 5 points, and the new bottom-row talents.

The WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70009, does not run its talents from the old vanilla Talent table. That table is still in the files (432 rows), but the trees the beta client actually uses live in the newer Trait tables. We decoded those tables for all nine classes. Here is what the beta client build 1.60.1.70009 says the trees look like.

The shape is the same for every class

Every class tree in the beta client has the same frame:

  • 3 tabs, one per spec, named in the usual class order (Arms, Fury, Protection and so on).
  • 7 rows of talents per tab.
  • Point gates at 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 points spent in that tab. Each class tree carries 18 of these gates (6 per tab).
  • One talent currency with a cap of 51 points. That is the same 51 a level 60 character had in the original game.
  • No choice nodes. Every node in the nine trees has a single entry, so there is no "pick one of two" talent anywhere in this build.
Tree sizes land close together. Warrior has the most rank slots (154 across 53 talents) and Paladin the fewest (138 across 50). The spread per class, from the beta client build 1.60.1.70009:
ClassTalentsRank slotsBiggest tab
Warrior53154Fury, 57 ranks
Warlock52149Demonology and Destruction, 50 ranks each
Druid51148Feral Combat and Restoration, 51 ranks each
Hunter52148Marksmanship and Survival, 52 ranks each
Priest54148Discipline, 51 ranks
Shaman50148Enhancement and Restoration, 51 ranks each
Mage54146Frost, 53 ranks
Rogue53139Assassination, 48 ranks
Paladin50138Protection, 48 ranks
The Talents column counts every talent node in the class tree, including the off-grid ones described below: Hunter's 52 is 50 placed talents plus 2 off the grid, and Priest's 54 is 53 placed plus 1. Rank slots and the biggest tab count only the placed talents.

Three talents sit off the grid in this build: Hunter's Improved Serpent Sting and Lightning Reflexes, and Priest's Holy Specialization. They have positions in the client data that do not land on any row, so we do not place them. They may be leftovers, or they may move in a later build.

The bottom row, class by class

The last row of each tab is where the tree ends. Most of these will look familiar to anyone who played later expansions, and a few are new names. Numbers below are the rank 1 values printed in the beta client's tooltip text.

Warrior. Arms ends on Mortal Strike (weapon damage plus 85, healing on the target reduced by 50% for 10 sec). Fury ends on Bloodthirst, which in this build also gives 10% movement speed for 10 sec. Protection ends on Shield Slam at 430 damage.

Paladin. Holy ends on Light's Vigil, a new talent: a 30 sec buff that makes your next Holy Shock on that target skip its cooldown and either deal 182 Holy damage or heal the target's party for 324. Protection ends on Holy Shield (20% more block chance for 10 sec). Retribution ends on Twist of Light, which cuts Seal mana costs by 20% and lets you keep one swing of your old Seal after switching. Protection's fifth row also has Templar's Bulwark, an absorb shield worth 100% of your maximum health for 8 sec.

Hunter. Beast Mastery ends on Bestial Wrath. Marksmanship ends on Sniper Shot (ranged damage increased by 160). Survival ends on Lacerating Strikes, which adds a bleed worth 40% of your Mongoose Bite damage over 21 sec. Survival also has Strider Kick, a melee kick for 100% weapon damage and 30% movement speed for 3 sec.

Rogue. Assassination ends on Venom, a finisher that raises Poison damage by 30% and Poison apply chance by 10%, lasting 9 to 21 sec by combo points. Combat ends on Adrenaline Rush. Subtlety ends on Thousand Cuts: each Rupture tick makes your next Hemorrhage or Backstab cost 3 less Energy, stacking up to 5 times.

Priest. Discipline ends on Power Infusion, and Penance sits two rows above it, on the fifth row (81 Holy damage or 184 healing, three times over 2 sec). Holy ends on Prayer of Mending, which jumps up to 5 times. Shadow ends on Shadowform.

Shaman. Elemental ends on Lava Burst (164 Fire damage, 20% more if Flame Shock is on the target). Elemental's fifth row also has Earthbound, which makes Earthbind Totem root targets for 5 sec when cast. Enhancement ends on Rage of the Farseer, 30% attack speed for 25 sec. Restoration ends on Riptide (480 up front plus 445 over 15 sec).

Mage. Arcane ends on Arcane Power (30% more damage, 30% more mana cost, 15 sec). Fire ends on Combustion. Frost ends on Ice Barrier at 431 absorb.

Warlock. Affliction ends on Wrack, a 6 sec Shadow effect that also raises the target's damage taken from your other Shadow damage over time effects by 10%. Demonology ends on Demonic Pact, which keeps your Demonic Sacrifice buff when you summon a different demon. Destruction ends on Incinerate (97 Fire damage, 25% more on an Immolated target). Bane of Havoc also appears in the tree.

Druid. Balance ends on Moonkin Form, which in this build raises armor from items by 360% and gives the party 3% critical strike chance. Feral Combat ends on Berserk. Restoration ends on Wild Growth, a party heal of 280 over 7 sec.

What this does not tell us

The client holds the trees and the tooltip text. It does not hold server tuning, so a value here can change without a new client build. Talent point income per level is also not in the tree data. The one hint in this build comes from a classless perk tree that we read as part of the Legacy Points system (the client does not name the tree, so that link is our reading). A perk there called Talented says you would start earning talent points at level 5 instead of 10 "but you still may not have more than 51 total talent points." We cover that tree in its own post.

You can walk every tree node by node in our Forever talent calculator.
