WoW Forever beta: three perk trees, likely for Legacy Points

Three classless perk trees in the WoW Forever beta client build 1.60.1.70009 that we read as the Legacy Points trees: every perk, its ranks and its tooltip.

The WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70009, carries three small talent trees that do not belong to any class. They share one currency, and achievements in the same client hand out "Legacy Points". This post lists what is in those trees. Linking the trees to Legacy Points is our reading of the data, and the next paragraph explains why.

A note on names first. The client does not print "Legacy Points" on the trees themselves. What it does show is this: 130 achievement rows (65 different achievements) in the beta client have the reward text "Earn 1 Legacy Point.", and three trees with no class attached all spend the same currency, which caps at 16. The perks inside are account and quality of life effects, not combat talents. We are reading these three trees as the Legacy Points perk trees. If a later build proves otherwise, we will correct it.

How you earn them

Every Legacy Point reward in the beta client is worth exactly 1 point. The 65 achievements fall into a few groups:

  • Class milestones. Novice, Experienced and Master for each class, for reaching level 25, 45 and 60 "for the first time" on that class. For example, Master Warrior reads "Reach level 60 for the first time on a Warrior."
  • Profession milestones. Journeyman, Expert and Artisan for each profession. Journeyman Alchemist is 150 skill, Artisan Alchemist is 300.
  • Dungeons and raids. Novice, Experienced and Master Spelunker, each for completing a set of dungeons. Conqueror of the Lair ("Defeat Onyxia."), Conquerer of the Wilds (encounters in Hyjal Summit) and Conquerer of the Deeps (encounters in the Barrow Deeps).
  • Battleground reputation. Master of Alterac Valley, Arathi Basin, Warsong Gulch and Darkspear Islands, each for exalted reputation with that battleground's factions.
  • A questline. Lord Valthalak Laid to Rest, for the chain that starts with An Earnest Proposition and ends with Saving the Best for Last.
  • PvP. Honor rank achievements (Rank 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14) and Field of Honor at weeks 4, 7 and 10.
  • Exploration. Explorer.
The "first time" wording on the class ones suggests they are earned once per account rather than per character, but the client text is all we have on that.

The three trees

Each tree is on a small grid with 9 nodes. Two of the nine in every tree are placeholders named "Unknown" with the text "To be added in a future update." Each tree also has two point gates, at 5 and 10 points spent. The currency cap in this build is 16.

The tree names below are ours. The client leaves the tree titles blank.

Things to keep in mind

  • The tooltip numbers are what the client prints. For a multi-rank perk we cannot tell from the text alone whether the number is per rank or the total at max rank.
  • The trees hold 7 real perks each, 21 in total, with 65 ranks across them (23, 19 and 23). With a cap of 16 points in this build, you cannot take everything.
  • Talented is the only perk that touches talent points. It keeps the 51 point ceiling from the class trees.
  • Two perks mention systems that do not exist in Classic Era: Camp features (Field Guide, and Permanence mentions resting at a camp) and crate turn-ins for Merchant's Favor (Performance Bonus). The client names them but we have not found their full data yet.
