WoW Forever beta: 13 new maps and 154 new zones in the client
New maps and zones in the WoW Forever beta client build 1.60.1.70009: Zephras Isle, Gilneas, Riverglades, new Mount Hyjal areas, new battlegrounds and more.
We compared the map and zone lists in the WoW Forever beta client, build 1.60.1.70009, with the Classic Era client, build 1.15.9.69722. The beta client has 72 maps against Era's 59, and 1,371 zone and subzone entries against Era's 1,212. That is 159 new zone entries. Five of them are internal developer entries (scratch maps plus an unused and a prototype area), which leaves 154 real ones. Six existing entries get a new name or parent, and a seventh only loses a trailing space in its name.
A map or zone in the client files is not a promise that you can go there. Some of these may be unfinished or cut before launch. What follows is only what the beta client build 1.60.1.70009 contains.

The client tags each map with a type. We list that type as the client gives it.

Zephras Isle
Zephras Isle is the largest new place by zone count. The beta client lists 28 area entries on its map, the Zephras Isle zone itself plus 27 named areas, including Thendal Village, Thendal Grove, Shen'dar Highlands, Shen'dar Village, Valanaar, Valanaar Skydocks, Windsong Lake, Gustberry Lowlands, Shadowgale Forest, Rohashi Spires, Shrine of Akir, Sanctum of Storms, Ruins of Ban'aethal, Skywall, Falaath Village and Fairweather Stables. It also has a set of standing stones (Windsong, Overlook and Thendal) and two pylon watchtowers.

New areas in Kalimdor

Renames worth knowing

One open question
18 new area entries point at a map id (2940) that has no row in the beta client's Map table. Their names match places we already know: Stormwind City, Elwynn Forest, Goldshire, Northshire Valley, Burning Steppes, Blackrock Mountain and others. We do not know yet what that map is for, so we are not calling it anything.
