Icing on the cake for the harpooning daily. Should you manage to kill the kraken, it will place a item in your inventory, which can be turned in for a few extra golds. This WILL count toward your 25 daily limit.
A note so no one gets confused: this comment was written in 2009 when dailies had a 25 per day limit. Currently, there is no limit on daily quests whatsoever so feel free to turn it in for some extra gold and it will also help you with 10000 Daily Quests Completed. Good luck :)!
