If more than one person goes in at a time, the quest becomes undoable. Most servers have got around this by forming a line & waiting (semi) patiently for the people in front to do it.
Some people try to queue jump due to ignorance or selfishness, but that's just as likely to get the line-jumper deliberately locked out by others jumping in after them to spite them until they give up & log off or join the line. I'd recommend waiting till the line is short instead of trying to queue jump & ending up in a grief-fest, you can do quests in some of the other hubs around the zone.

When you go into the phased area you get an action bar with a left & right arrow, and a 1-100 energy bar that fades towards 0 (if it's at 1-50ish) or 100 (if it's at 50ish-100).
You need to press the buttons to try & keep the energy bar around 50.
Occasionally you'll get bonked on the head by the sage. This'll randomly move your energy bar 15-25 points one way or the other. Hence the best thing to do is always try to stay as close to 50 as possible.
After about minute of this you'll pass his test, can hand in & the next person in line can do the quest.

waited for about 4.5h... to do this quest 2nd monitor is truly required - watch movie, tv show etc.. Some the queue said that they read the book during the quest. Good luck.
One more comment: don't try to go without line - people in it will try to spoil your attempt and likely success in it, but because of you all people in line (more then 50) will stay for 5 minute more - more than 4man*hour
