Where the reagents come from

Light Parchment. No recipe, Blizzard quest reward or dungeon journal drop in our game data produces it. Also a required reagent in 308 other recipes (297 Inscription, 8 Enchanting and 3 Engineering); Codex of the Clear Mind takes the most, 200 per craft.

Ultramarine Ink. Made with Ultramarine Ink (Inscription, Kul Tiran Inscription) from 1 Distilled Water and 1 Ultramarine Pigment. At lowest listed prices that makes one Ultramarine Ink for 29 silver, against 49 silver listed. Also a required reagent in 45 other recipes (44 Inscription and 1 Jewelcrafting); the most per craft: Sinister Combatant's Etched Vessel (Inscription, 50 per craft), Glyph of Dire Bees (Inscription, 30 per craft), Glyph of Steaming Fury (Inscription, 30 per craft), Glyph of Storm's Wake (Inscription, 30 per craft) and Glyph of the Aerial Chameleon (Inscription, 30 per craft).

Crimson Ink. Made with Crimson Ink (Inscription, Kul Tiran Inscription) from 1 Distilled Water and 1 Crimson Pigment. At lowest listed prices that makes one Crimson Ink for 12 gold19 silver, against 12 gold95 silver listed. Also a required reagent in 40 other recipes (39 Inscription and 1 Tailoring); the most per craft: Codex of the Quiet Mind (Inscription, 60 per craft), Crimson Ink Well (Inscription, 30 per craft), Honorable Combatant's Etched Vessel (Inscription, 30 per craft), Inscribed Vessel of Mysticism (Inscription, 30 per craft) and Sanguine Feather Quill of Lana'thel (Inscription, 30 per craft).

Reading these numbers

At current lowest listed prices the 3 reagents for one craft of Contract: 7th Legion cost 70 gold65 silver. Most of that is Crimson Ink - 5 at 12 gold95 silver each, 64 gold75 silver, 91.6% of the whole basket. Watch that one price and you have watched most of this recipe.

Break-even is 74 gold36 silver - below that listed price the craft loses gold once Blizzard’s 5% cut is taken. The crafted item’s lowest listed price is 1 gold79 silver, which does not clear it.

The crafted item currently lists for less than its reagents cost: −68 gold86 silver before fees, and the Auction House would still take 8 silver95 copper of a sale, so a craft loses 68 gold94 silver at these prices. At current listings, buying the crafted item costs less than making it. That is an estimated -97.6% return on the gold you put into reagents.

Listing depth right now: 395 units across 17 auctions region-wide. Depth separates a market price from a single asking figure, but listings are not sales, so read it alongside the estimate.

Costs use each reagent’s lowest listed price; the estimate is the crafted item’s lowest listed price, times the items one craft makes, minus those reagents and Blizzard’s 5% sale cut. Listings are asking prices, not sales. Recalculated every snapshot and left blank rather than guessed when a price is missing. How we estimate crafting profit →
