This is paladins' quick, expensive heal.
In Cataclysm (as of 4.0.3a), all healers have the following types of heals:
Quick, expensive heal: 1.5 second cast, very high mana cost, high heal value.
Inexpensive heal: 3 second cast (usually talented to 2.5), very low mana cost, low heal value.
Slow, big heal: 3 second cast (usually talented to 2.5), high mana cost, very high heal value. The mana costs differ very slightly between classes. Two of them have the quick heal cost more than the big heal.

No longer our main heal, flash of light has become the Paladin's emergency heal for when the tank or another party member is losing health too quickly to get off a good holy light or divine light. It's great for this purpose, but don't try using it all the time, you'll find yourself going oom very quickly.
Nourish has been changed to 22% of base mana.

With 2/2 Points in [spell=53576] your holy shock crits make this spell instant cast, giving Paladins one of the few options for healing on the run, or in pvp a way to avoid getting interrupted and locked out.
Hands down the best raid healing spell all around for paladins.
This spell is the most useful and most used spell for any paladin in end game instances. With a low cast time paladins can get off many heals in the time it takes to get off one heal of light.
I'll have to say my personal feedback on this spell, as a Holy Paladin. I have this spell on the "7" key stroke, just in case i really need the spell. But, i've checked that i've never used the spell so far. I normally spam Holy Light to top off the party/raid (this also procs Daybreak - extra Holy Shock - for my benefit), Holy Shock when it's off CD unless everyone's healed and i have 3 charges of Holy Power, and Divine Shock when anyone deserves serious healing (if i have an Infusion of Light Proc, it's even better than a Flash of Light). Healers may say that this is not a triage and i'
Many years later quick heals are still quick and expensive, but spells that used to be big heals are now cheap heals, with usually longer cast time and same heal value as quick heal
If anyone's curious what the missing ones are, particularly the "big" ones - Priest used to have Heal/Greater Heal, Shaman had Healing Wave/Greater Healing Wave, Druid used to have Healing Touch, and Paladin used to have Divine Light.
Before 11.0.5, I was able to spam this to heal my wife who tanks and the CD was instant. Now we have a 6s cooldown...not great when running duo. Based on the patch notes, this was a ninja change since its not noted.
You've obviously never raided before.
And if FoL7 wasn't efficient enough already, you could spam FoL6. It has nearly the same coefficient as FoL7 (at level 70, 42.24% compared to 42.86%), so regardless of how much +healing you have, FoL6 will only heal ~120 less than rank 7.
So if your FoL7 heals for 1300's, FoL6 will heal about 1200; maybe 10% less HP/sec, but for 22% less mana.
Not that Paladins run OOM due to FoL anyway, but if you really want to maximize your efficiency, it's an option to keep in mind. Could help if you're assigned to heal when not Holy-spec'ed, for example..
Is that copied and pasted from wowwiki.com?
yeah except that druids get a beastly heal that is a flash for them at 80. barely more mana, and over 2x the healin. and a bonus if they have their hots on.
Yup - Nourish
If a paladin and druid has the same base mana set at 100, nourish will heal for (1883+2187)/2 = 2035 to 2442 hp (*1.2) using 9 mana.
Flash of light will heal for (785 + 879)/2 = 832 hp using 7 mana.
Druid "mana" to heal rating is therefore:
- worst case scenario, eg no hots: 2035/9 = 226 hp/mana
- best case scenario, eg hot applied: 2442/9 = 271 hp/mana
Whereas the paladin's is:
- 832/7 = 119 hp/mana
Worst case scenario, the druid version of the fast 1.5 second heal
is healing for 90-128 PERCENT more...
as of WOTLK, they made it more fair making the spell cost 8% of your base mana, which doesnt include the +Int effects from items. this kinda sux for pally b/c its not a consistent mana cost, it changes depending on your base mana. This will be costly in lower levels, due to not too many +INT items for pally, most items lvl 20-30 focus on strength/stamina but at higher levels it will prove to be very mana efficient. At lv 70, it works out to around 90 mana, which is amazing IMO.
When im healing this spell is my main healing spell (aswell as Holy Shock)
I usually just Spam this and a holy shock every now and then when tank gets a lil low on hp, if FoL isnt gonna cut it ill use Holy Light :)I have 1.8k Healing SP and this spell heals for 3.4 - 3.6k per heal (6.9k Crit - Highest ive done) :)
All in all an awesome spell :D
Edit: Corrected Some Spelling Mistakes :)
I was actually very curious, ty for this :D
Definitely an emergency heal above all else. It heals for more than Holy Light but a lot more mana and with the quick cast time if you're relying on this you'll burn mana.
If anyone doubted paladin being the newbie class; they are the only ones that have "tips" on their tooltips:
"A quick, expensive heal"
"Good for periods of heavy damage"
Admittedly, Greater Heal at the time had "slow casting spell" in its description. But you're right, Divine Light stating "Good for periods of heavy damage" was interesting at the time. This was when they tried out the "three levels of healing spell" paradigm (which ultimately failed, and they would remove two expansions later in WoD) and I guess it was to help Paladins adjust between the new types, which went from FoL/HL in WOTLK to FoL/HL/DL in Cata.
In Mists of Pandaria, Flash of Light is the only baseline heal- Divine Light, Holy Light, and Holy Radiance are exclusive to Holy spec paladins.
No longer level 16. I have it on my lvl 14.
I just came here to figure out what was going on. Eventually I figured out that it's due a talent called Light's Celerity. It's not very good, in my opinion.
As a holy pally, you'll use this alot, you should only use holy light when there is a lot of damage and your under pressure to heal alot. Right now (at lvl 70) my flash of light can crit for 1.9k, thats 10 times the mana cost, can you say that about holy light? If use use just holy light you'll be out of mana in about 10 casts, assuming you get a crit or two.
Another thing to remember about flash of light VS holy light:
Flash of light is usually for spamming the tank with heals, and you keep him healthy all the time, or at least most of the time.
Holy light heals a lot, and you have to wait for him to be a little hurt, if then all of a sudden he gets a good hit from the enemy, you may be too late. OR if you start casting it, and someone else saw the tank being hurt, they may be casting a big heal as well, causing your or their mana to be wasted.
I have just done a simple test to see exactly how much more mana efficient FoL is than HL. Assume that 100% of your bonus healing goes towards your spells. If you have 2000 bonus healing, then you would heal at least 2500 health. Also, assume that the tank has BoL on, increasing it to 2685 healed, not even counting the crits from the spell, or the talent points spent in the holy tree. Divide that number by 180, and you get approx. 15 H per M. As for HL, you would heal 5080 health. Now divide that number by 840, and you get approx. 6 H per M. so FoL is 2.5 times more efficient, and has a cast time thats 1.66 faster than HL. There you go, FoL = best heal in the game
The only time I would advise anyone to use Flash of Light is when you have Infusion of Light and someone needs a quick heal... that instant cast is very useful.
Otherwise, not really worth using. Most of the situations where you'd think about using it, a holy shock or divine light is the better choice.
I think the tooltip of the spell is wrong it heal for more than 240% more like 330% (yes i know about the passive that increase flash of light by 100%)
can someone explain to me?
Hrm.
One should note this spell has about the highest mana-efficiency you'll find for heals, but at the same time is incredibly situational.
With a Holy-spec, your Holy Light crits so much that you get a ton of mana back. And Flash of Light heals so little it's rarely useful for actually healing someone against damage. This leaves 2 main uses:
a) Topping someone off for little mana. Although seeing Holy Light crits more, you could try to be lucky if you're daring, and get the heal completely for free.
b) Flash-spamming a tank. Most effective if multiple Paladins are doing it, making a tank virtually invulnerably for very evenly-spread threat-increase on the Paladins. Or if you do it to support HoTs/EarthShield on the tank to make sure he can't die. It's a bit over-situational, but not bad at all. Just learn when to use it over Holy Light.
I have a level 40 paladin, and i aboultlet LOVE this spell. Not only is this spell incredibly cheap (70 mana for a 120 hp heal), but by getting some halfway decent "of healing" greens, you can EASILY heal harder than a priest.
This is THE paladin raid spell, I have topped the charts many times with this great, mana effcient spell.
Every time you FoL god kills a priest, i hope your happy D:
