It should be noted that this spell randomly chooses from 3 different turtle skins. There's a green skinned + tan shelled variety (similar to the Speedy pet), there's a red-skinned + brownish shelled varierty, and then there's a sea-turtle with a bluish-green color. They are all the same model, but with different colors.

It should be noted that recently the actual name of this spell has changed.

It used to be Polymorph: Turtle.
It is now Polymorph(Rank 1: Turtle).

This pretty much breaks any macros or addons involving casting Polymorph Turtle (or Pig).

You can fix this, however, by simply changing the name to the new one.

Currently, Polymorph is part of polymorph/sap/incapacitate DR. Any applied CC that falls into this category (such as Repentance or Sap), will diminish the duration of next CC from same category to 50%. Another CC would reduce the duration to 25% (of the maximum duration); then, the target gains temporary immunity to another CC and after the immunity ends, targed isvulnerable to full-duration CC again.

Current DR chain for Polymorph is: 10 sec - 5 sec - 2.5 sec - immune

This is my favorite polymorph macro, and I made it myself.

Left-click focuses on your target and casts polymorph (top rank you have).
Right-click polymorphs your focus.

#showtooltip
/focus [button:1]
/cast [button: 1]Polymorph
/cast [button: 2,target=focus]Polymorph

You could just aswell use rank 1 polymorph in pvp, cause it's just the same as any other of the ranks and saves you some mana.

Let's say you use polymorph rank 4 about 10 times per game, that will be in total cost of 10*150=1500 mana.

When using rank 1 you will only use 60 mana per cast, which will end up with 10*60=600 mana, so you save pretty much mana by using the lower rank of polymorph.

More complicated macro I made:

#showtooltip [mod:ctrl,@focus][]Polymorph(Rabbit)
/clearfocus [button:2]
/stopmacro [button:2]
/cast [mod:shift]Presence of Mind
/cast [mod:ctrl,@focus,harm][]Polymorph(Rabbit)
/focus [nomod:ctrl]

  • If you hold shift, it uses PoM to make it an instant polymorph.

  • If you hold ctrl, it casts at your focus, but only if you have a focus and it is hostile.

  • If you don't hold ctrl, it focuses the person you're polymorphing (so you can change target happily and still keep an eye on your new pet).

  • If you use the generic question mark icon for the macro (you should), when you hold ctrl the icon will show you if your focus is in polymorphing range.

  • If you right click the macro, it clears your focus (not necessary but regularly useful).

It all sounds very confusing, but when you use it, it's rather intuitive. Obviously change it from (Rabbit) if you want to have a different pet.

edit: if you want to prevent your elemental and mirror images breaking your sheep, put these 2 lines at the end of the macro:
/petfollow
/petpassive
(but that will cause your elemental to stop attacking whatever it was attacking, whether it is polymorph target or not)

If you want the easiest time fighting Gahz'ranka, clear the 2 patrolling packs of 3 panthers near the Temple of Bethekk, the patrolling left side Berserker, and the 4 trolls just inside the doorway to the Temple. Summon Gahz, pull him to the Temple doorway (hit him every so often so he doesn't leash) and fight him inside it. Healer can stand in a corner to avoid frost breath, Gahz's knockback will do nothing, and there are no fish with 75% armor debuff to respawn or pester you.

There is no trainer in the game that trains this spell. The dumb person above just posted that from what wowhead was saying, instead of finding out if it was a fact hismself. There is an error up there that shows this is trainable from 3 different trainers.

zodicus+3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

dumb. ultimately IS worth it to sheep them. takes u 1.5 seconds takes then AT least 1.5 seconds(GCD) assuming they react instantly before they can heal again. plus it costs you 60 mana because your using rank 1 in pvp and it costs them 215 mana to shift into travel form.

Its fairly easy to get. The fish boss is no harder then any boss in MC. The only hard part about the fight is knowing where to fight him. He knocks you up in the air and you need your backs against the wall.

One of the best Crowd Control methods in the game, in pve and pvp

Can't get much more wrong than that. It's the only CC that heals the victim, and one of the few that breaks on any damage. Also can only be cast on 1 player at a time. The only thing it has going for it is that it doesn't have a cooldown. edit: oh, and it can't be used on druids or locks using metamorphosis

Also when replying, explain why during this future patch a statement is correct/incorrect. This ability at rank 1 (until about WotLK) would have cost significantly less mana because that was before spells were based off of percentage of base mana, which of course increases by level. This lead to downranking of spells in PvE and PvP, which was extremely overpowered in some situations (especially for healers) Whether the highest and lowest ranks of polymorphs would have the same effect, I didn't play a mage in classic WoW or BC, so I wouldn't know. But, until the pre-LK patch, rank 1 would have

Zeriko+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I'm pretty sure you've got it wrong, they don't all cost the same as the best version you've got, they all cost a specific amount of base mana. If you watch as you ding, mana cost will increase ever so slightly.

Turtle is still the better polymorph. Showing that you've actually done something for your spells, showing that you're a real mage! Sheep, is just old. Pig, easy questline. Cat, costs alot of gold, but still, this, turtle, drops from a boss. An old school boss. I grinded this for more than 2 years and at last got it yesterday. Now have all the polymorphs in game, /yay. (yes troo, this can be bought from the AH, but lets just say mages are honorable and grind this theirselves :P)

The GCD on shifting is much less than 1.5s, so depending on what the druid is doing, it might not be worth it. I mean, I'll pop in and out of cheetah form in less than a second if I catch a slow I don't like, meaning I only lose maybe a second of hotting, which doesn't mean much since they're hots. What's more, I gain some cheetah time, meaning I can use that speed to gain a better position to keep hotting out of your los. It does have it's perks though. See a druid trying to regrowth/cyclone/starfire/root? poly that sucka and it'll #$%^ him off a whole lot, if nothing else. You make a good

Think a little bit. If polymorph would not heal your enemy, it would be overpowered. As simple as that. Imagine this... You cast frostbolt on an enemy. As soon as the cast is complete, you start casting polymorph. The enemy will be hit by frostbolt, and then unable to do anything. Start casting frostbolt again, then do poly direct after. repeat, repeat, repeat. 1on1 vs a mage would be pretty much pointless.

Solo'd as an 80 Ret Paladin. I have Naxx/Heroic/EoH Epics and only about 4-5 blues. Keep Judgement of Light and Seal of Wisdom up, always. Try and keep yourself above 80% at all times with flash heals. Also, make sure you use divine plea whenever it's up. Bring a mana pot, as well.

I'd like to point out a useful application of this ability.

Counterspell on cd? Not to worry! If you polymorph the target then immediately cast an insta-damage spell (Fire Blast, Ice Lance, etc.), you get a ghetto interrupt without the enemy regaining health. It's best used when they're almost finished casting, forcing them to start all over again.

danroe-1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

First of all, your post isn't totally correct, because of DIMISHING RETURNS, trinkets, racials and spells such Druids' shapeshift, Ice block, pala shields, Vanish (timed right) Silences, Will of the Forsaken, Intercept maybe (because of the 3 secs stun), and many others.

Ok then, think of this.

A warlock Fears you, starts DOT-ing you, then casting shadowbolts. As soon as the Fear is about to end, he casts Fear again. Then he keeps shadowbolting you. You cannot do anything. And the damned fear does NOT heal you, does NOT break as soon as you take damage. And when polymorph was reduced to 10 seconds in PVP, Fear still lasted 15.

Warlocks OP? Naaaahhh...

edit: this should be a reply
