It no longer requires leather - it costs 5 bolts of runecloth now
it is still the best way to get to 300 skill on tailoring - so don't be shy to use it ;)
the gloves can be disenchanted for some nice mats that will get you 5-10 skill on your enchanting.. or just some $$ ( the gloves are worthless at the AH )
