WoW Forever Pre-Raid Best in Slot Guide
Short answer: craft armor first, collect the Tier 0 dungeon sets while you level, and chase weapons last. This page is a Classic based list for WoW Forever. Blizzard changed parts of the game, so weapons, trinkets, necks and rings may move, and we will update the page after launch on November 4, 2026. [Blizzard, 2026-09-12]
Written 2026-11-01 for the Forever (Classic Plus) beta. Every list is built from original Classic level 60 gear and is labelled that way.
Read this first: what this list is and is not
These are Classic lists. Everything below is built from original level 60 World of Warcraft itemization: what dropped in the old dungeons, what the quests paid, what professions could craft and what reputation vendors sold. We have not rebuilt the lists from the Forever client, and we do not name a single Forever only item or stat. If a piece was not in the original game, it is not on this page.
That matters because Blizzard has said Forever is not a straight copy of Classic. It adds new zones, new raids at the level cap, and the Legacy perk system. [Blizzard, 2026-09-13] Blizzard has also changed parts of the beta between builds, and its development notes list balance and loot adjustments. [Blizzard, 2026-09-17] [Blizzard blue post, 2026-10-01] Treat each table as a starting shopping list, not a promise.
Slots most likely to change: weapons and trinkets, because new content competes there first; necks and rings, because quest and reputation rewards are the most likely to be retuned; and anything that depended on a Classic world boss or a reputation that Forever may handle differently. Slots least likely to change: crafted armor, because recipes and materials are the most stable part of the old game, and the Tier 0 dungeon sets.
We will update this page after launch on November 4, 2026 [Blizzard, 2026-09-12], once we can check each item against the live game and our own item pages. Where an item is confirmed we will link it. Until then the names are plain text, and we would rather leave a link out than point you at the wrong item.

How pre-raid BiS works
Pre-raid means the best gear you can get before you set foot in a raid. In the original game it came from four places, and the order you work through them is the real guide.
- Quest rewards on the way up. Free, and often better than green drops until the high fifties. Do not skip the long chains in Un'Goro, Winterspring and the Plaguelands.
- Crafted gear. Blacksmithing, Leatherworking, Tailoring and Alchemy supply the most reliable pieces, because you control the materials. The cost is gold and farming time, so compare it with the prices in the gold guide before you commit.
- Dungeon drops. Lower and Upper Blackrock Spire, Stratholme, Scholomance, Dire Maul and Blackrock Depths hold most of the remaining slots. Expect to run a few dungeons many times. The dungeon sets that players call Tier 0 are built from drops across several of them.
- Reputation rewards. Slow, but guaranteed. See the reputation guide for how Forever handles standing.
Two habits save more time than any single item. First, fill your weakest slot before your favourite one: a blue chest beats a better weapon you cannot afford yet. Second, hold off on enchanting anything you will replace within a week. Gear is cheap compared with the enchants you waste on it.
Warrior: tank and Fury
Warrior is the class where crafting matters most. A tank wants stamina and armor first, and Blacksmithing hands you both without leaving the result to luck. The usual path is the Imperial Plate set, then the Lionheart Helm, with a Dal'Rend's weapon from Upper Blackrock Spire whenever Rend Blackhand drops one. Farm Thorium before you farm bosses: the helm and the plate both eat it, and you will want a spare stack for repairs and enchants anyway.
Tank list (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Head | Lionheart Helm | Blacksmithing. Needs Thorium bars and rare reagents. |
| Chest, legs, belt, boots, bracers | Imperial Plate pieces | Blacksmithing. The standard crafted plate before raids. |
| One hand and shield side | Dal'Rend's Sacred Charge and Dal'Rend's Tribal Guardian | Upper Blackrock Spire, Warchief Rend Blackhand. |
| Two-hand fallback | Arcanite Reaper | Blacksmithing. Requires Arcanite bars. |
Fury is a different problem. Fury wants weapons, and weapons come from luck. The two safest targets are Arcanite Reaper, which you can craft instead of waiting for a drop, and Quel'Serrar from the Dire Maul quest line, which also works for a tank. A Fury warrior can wear the same plate as a tank for the first weeks and swap pieces as dungeon drops arrive.
Fury list (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Two-hand | Arcanite Reaper | Blacksmithing. The reliable Fury two-hander you can craft. |
| One hand pair | Dal'Rend's Sacred Charge and Dal'Rend's Tribal Guardian | Upper Blackrock Spire, Warchief Rend Blackhand. |
| Armor set | Battlegear of Valor (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
What to farm first: Thorium for the helm and the plate, then Upper Blackrock Spire for Rend Blackhand. If you are choosing between a better chest and a better weapon, take the weapon on Fury and the chest on tank. Weapons and trinkets are the slots Forever is most likely to move, so do not spend your last gold on an enchant for a weapon you plan to swap.
Paladin: healer, tank and Retribution
Paladin gear is the most overlapped list on this page. Plate is plate, so a paladin shares the Blacksmithing pieces with warriors and chases Tier 0 for the set bonus. Most paladins want Lightforge Armor as the core, and it comes together slowly through dungeon drops, so treat it as a project for your first weeks at level 60 rather than a single run.
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Lightforge Armor (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Tank armor | Imperial Plate pieces | Blacksmithing. Shared with warrior tanks. |
| Retribution weapon | Arcanite Reaper | Blacksmithing. A craftable two-hander. |
| Healer fallback | Mooncloth pieces | Tailoring. Made from Felcloth, with a cooldown on each bolt. |
For a healer the common mistake is chasing plate for its armor value. Healing power, mana and spirit matter most, and a cloth piece such as the Mooncloth set can beat plate on raw healing even though the class could wear the plate. Check with a Tailor on your server before you assume plate is the answer. For Retribution a two-hand weapon is close to the whole build, so craft Arcanite Reaper or hunt a drop and put your first good enchant there.
Rogue
Rogue is leather, and leather is the easiest armor type to build around crafting. Devilsaur Gauntlets and Devilsaur Leggings are the pieces to farm Un'Goro for, because the leather is common enough that one Leatherworker can supply a whole group. Tier 0 Shadowcraft fills the rest of the slots more slowly.
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Shadowcraft Armor (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Hands and legs | Devilsaur Gauntlets and Devilsaur Leggings | Leatherworking. Devilsaur Leather is skinned from the devilsaurs of Un'Goro Crater. |
| Weapons | Dal'Rend's Sacred Charge | Upper Blackrock Spire, Warchief Rend Blackhand. |
Weapons are the choice that matters. Combat rogues want a sword or mace that is both fast and strong; daggers are for builds that rely on opening attacks. A Dal'Rend's pair from Upper Blackrock Spire is the long term goal, with Quel'Serrar as the quest alternative. In the meantime, keep your best quest weapon and spend the gold you save on an enchant instead of a middling replacement.
Hunter
Hunters get the best of leatherworking because they trade mail for agility once crafted pieces are available. Devilsaur is the quick win. Black Dragonscale is the longer project, because the scales have to be farmed in numbers and turned into several pieces.
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Beaststalker Armor (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Chest and legs | Black Dragonscale pieces | Leatherworking. Needs Black Dragonscale from the Blackrock Mountain dragonkin. |
| Hands and legs | Devilsaur Gauntlets and Devilsaur Leggings | Leatherworking. Devilsaur Leather from Un'Goro Crater. |
| Ranged weapon | Your best dungeon bow, gun or crossbow | We do not name one guaranteed pick; it depends on what drops first. |
The honest answer on weapons is that the ranged weapon is a drop and it is slow. A hunter's damage comes from the bow or gun more than from any other slot, so run each dungeon with one purpose: the ranged slot. Compare damage per second first and stats second. The quiver and ammo pouch also matter more than most players expect; buy the largest you can afford, because running out of ammo in the middle of a pull costs more than the bag does.
Mage and warlock
Casters wear cloth, and cloth means Tailoring and Tier 0. Every cloth class chases the same crafted pieces, so there is competition for Runecloth and Mooncloth on the auction house. Buy the materials early, while players are still leveling, as the gold guide suggests for any new material.
Mage (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Magister's Regalia (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Cloth | Pieces from a Tailor | Ask your own Tailor for the current recipes; we list none until the beta client confirms them. |
| Weapon | A staff with intellect and spell power | Dungeon drop. We do not name one pick. |
For a mage the order is spell power first, intellect second, spirit last. Fire and frost builds want different pieces, so decide before you spend. Tier 0 Magister's Regalia is a good floor, and because the pieces drop from several dungeons you can collect it while you level.
Warlock (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Dreadmist Raiment (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Cloth | Pieces from a Tailor | Shadow and fire options exist; ask your Tailor which are craftable now. |
| Weapon | A staff, or a one hand and off hand pair | Dungeon drop. Stamina counts for as much as spell power on a warlock. |
A warlock needs health to survive its own life tap and drain loop, so stamina is not optional. Dreadmist is the set to chase, and crafted cloth from a friendly Tailor closes the gap. Weapons and trinkets are the slots to revisit once the live game shows what drops.
Priest, druid and shaman: healers, feral and Enhancement
These three classes heal in cloth, leather or mail and do not share a list, but they share a priority: healing power and mana. Mooncloth is the quiet winner for priests and for druids on a budget. The cooldown on a Mooncloth bolt means one Tailor cannot make a whole group's gear quickly, so place the order early.
Priest healer (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | Devout Raiment (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Cloth | Mooncloth pieces | Tailoring. Made from Felcloth, and each bolt has a cooldown, so supply is limited. |
| Weapon | A healing power staff or mace | Dungeon drop. Pick by healing power and spirit. |
Run Stratholme and Scholomance for the Tier 0 pieces and check the Mooncloth order before you buy anything from the auction house. Casters share the Felcloth supply, so expect the price to rise once more Tailors reach 60.
Druid healer and feral (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Healer set | Wildheart Raiment (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Healer cloth | Mooncloth pieces | Tailoring. Druids can wear cloth for healing power. |
| Feral leather | Devilsaur Gauntlets and Devilsaur Leggings | Leatherworking. For agility and attack power. |
Druids split in two. A healing druid wears Wildheart and Mooncloth and cares about spirit. A feral druid wants agility and attack power, which makes Devilsaur the first purchase, and a Dal'Rend's weapon is a fair target while you save for something better. Forever may touch druid weapon rewards, so wait on those.
Shaman healer and Enhancement (Classic based):
| Slot | Item or set | Where it comes from (Classic) |
|---|---|---|
| Armor set | The Elements (Tier 0) | Dungeon drops across Blackrock Spire, Stratholme and Scholomance. |
| Black Dragonscale and Devilsaur pieces | Leatherworking. Useful on an Enhancement shaman. | |
| Enhancement weapon | Arcanite Reaper or a Dal'Rend's one hand pair | Blacksmithing, or Upper Blackrock Spire. |
Shamans wear mail, which is where leatherworkers and blacksmiths overlap the most. To heal, take The Elements and hunt a staff. To melee, use the same crafted pieces as a hunter and put a two-hand weapon in your hands.
What to do first at level 60
Our advice, not a rule from Blizzard:
- Finish the late quest chains before you queue for dungeons. They pay free blues and teach you the zones.
- Pick one profession that supplies a piece on your list, and leave the rest until you can afford them.
- Run Lower Blackrock Spire first. It is the easiest of the group, and it drops many Tier 0 pieces.
- Move to Stratholme and Scholomance, then Upper Blackrock Spire and Dire Maul, once your group can survive the longer fights.
- Enchant last, and only on pieces you will keep.
For raid readiness after that, see the raid prep guide. Legacy perks are covered in the Legacy points guide; plan your points before you plan your dungeons.
