Old Crafty

I have many a good memory of this fish. When I first started playing WoW a couple years ago I had a mild obsession with achievements. One day I was looking through and saw The Fishing Diplomat and thought to myself "Piece of cake!" After that I took my level 30something Alliance toon and spent a couple hours corpse running to the fishing spot in Orgrimmar and got the achievement. I was happy with myself but while I was corpse running I was looking at achievements and saw the one for Old Crafty so I thought to myself "Hell, I've gone through this much trouble, I may as well stay until I get him."

I spent a few hours fishing and dying in Orgrimmar trying to get the fish to no avail, but I kept at it, I was determined to get this fish. Throughout the day various Hordies would come fish with me, some would kill me, some would just hang out and watch me, I remember at one point a guy called over a bunch of his guildies to fish with me which was pretty cool. One of the more memorable moments I have was when a rogue sneaked up and one shot me, by the time I got back to my body one of the Hordies fishing with me was dueling the rogue that killed me and was absolutely stomping him in the nuts. At some point I found out that people were talking about me in Trade chat because somebody hopped onto an Ally toon to let me know, so various things like this happened more often for the next couple days.

On the third day I fished for a couple hours with the usual hordies hanging out or killing me, I had garnered quite the audience. Finally, after the many many many grueling hours of corpse running, I caught him! I /y well knowing that nobody would understand me but I was still ecstatic. I started dancing with joy and all of the Hordies hanging out with me started dancing as well, I wish I had gotten a screenshot of it to this day. I bowed and started to Hearth, finally achieving my goal, when suddenly I was one shot by another Hordie. Honestly, I thought it was a fitting way to end. My gear was long red from the many deaths to the guards on the way in, so I just took a Rez Sickness and hung out in Stormwind for a while, announcing my achievement in Trade chat with joy.

How to make fishing less boring
There's no denying it, fishing gets boring after about the 100th time you throw your bobble into the waters to catch, for example, this fish. Here are some of the techniques i use to make it fun.

Step 1.
Download/buy some comedies (I for example watched seasons 1-5 of Scrubs while i fished my way through 1-320 fishing [Yea, still got some way to go]), movies, any kind of motionpicture that you enjoy and could watch for +4 hours.

Step 2.
Download BS player/Media player classic (Those are atleast the ones i know that have this feature) and go to Options. There is an option called "Always on top". Switch that on. Then, turn on your Scrubs or whatever you want to watch, and place it so it doesn't get in the way of your bobble (Bobler or whatever that thing is that floats on the surface of the water).

Step 3
We're almost done. Now, go to your fishing spot (Ironforge or Orgimmar in case you're after these two lovely's), and bid your Fishing skill to some easy to press (F for example) button. Then turn on "Auto-loot" (Remember, you still have to press "Yes i want to loot this BoP fish" button when you do finally get this lovely piece of epicness) from WoW's options. Next order of business, go to Sound options, and switch it on so it makes sounds when a fish has been "caught" (They are either Sound effects or Ambient sounds, so turn both on.). Now finely toon it so you can listen to your show and you can hear it when the fish is caught. Now, fish away!

This has worked for like +2 years for me now, and i finally have a place to post my comments ^_^. Hope you enjoy'd my little tricks and tips, and i hope to see some lovely "Salty" tittled people running around!

That should last atleast 3 characters worth of fishing. Have a good one!

EDIT// "Be prepared to be annoyed by other people fishing near you, as their bobbers will often be just as loud as yours."
This is a small problem with this technique, but the way to get around this is to get far from other people, and it isn't really hard. Not a whole lot of people (atleast on Darksorrow) are fishing for these lovelys.

There are two possible choices for fishing up both of these fish.

Ironforge:
The Mystic Ward - Right in front of the mage trainers there is a pool of water. This is a rather good spot for the Alliance, as most people seem to only fish in the Forlorn Cavern... for the Horde, it's suicide.

The Forlorn Cavern - Pretty close to the fishing trainer in IF. The best choice for the Horde by far... as it's somewhat out of the way, and you can nestle yourself in the back corner and hope no one wants you to die.

Honorable mention: Lava - You can fish in lava. For the Alliance, there really isn't much point in this. For the Horde, you may be able to find a nice spot where no one will see you... but with the guards at level 75, I wouldn't recommend it.

Orgrimmar:
The Valley of Spirits - The area where the Priest/Mage trainers are. A pretty nice spot for both sides... Horde side, no drawbacks really... Alliance side it's a rather nice spot as long as you stay out of sight... only problem will be Hunters tracking humanoid or someone portalling in seeing your [fishing] in the chat log.

The Valley of Honor - Pretty close to the fishing trainer in Org. The best choice for the Alliance no doubt... you can tuck yourself away behind the rocks under the waterfall and fish life away. For the Horde its also a good spot... nice and wide open, with easy access to the trainer and a vendor (for lures and trash fish).

My personal experience: I just finished this on my Shaman and I must say, I got extremely lucky. It took me about 700 caught fish in IF to catch Old Ironjaw, and less than 70 in Org for Old Crafty. I managed to die 3 times in the process... one due to walking head first into the guards and a scout between the Drag and the Valley of Honor, and then twice by members of the Horde faction... once in VoS and again in VoH. Personally, I think I used up all my good luck getting these 2 achievements... all my rolls from now on will be 1's no doubt.
