For Diablo's 30th anniversary, Blizzard announced Season of Hell's Legacy for Diablo IV, starting September 15: Deckard Cain returns as a spirit guide, the questline revisits the series' past games, and players face Diablo, Mephisto and Baal and can wield their powers. Diablo IV also launches on Nintendo Switch 2 that day.
Blizzard marked 30 years of Diablo at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony with a retrospective narrated by Deckard Cain, then Tiffany Wat and Brent Gibson took the stage to announce the next Diablo IV season.
Deckard Cain returns in that season as a spirit who guides players back to familiar places and enemies. As part of the anniversary, players face Diablo, Mephisto and Baal and can take on the Prime Evils' powers themselves. Blizzard also confirmed there will be cows.
The season is called Season of Hell's Legacy and arrives on September 15, the same day Diablo IV launches on Nintendo Switch 2. Its seasonal questline runs through a recreated history of Diablo's earlier games, including Tristram, and brings back Legacy Uniques such as the Stone of Jordan. The team said it likes surprises, pointing to the Paladin's shadow drop at The Game Awards earlier this year.
