Overwatch reveals Doctrine, a vampire hero for Season 5, plus Roadhog and Sombra reworks

Overwatch

Blizzard's Overwatch segment introduced Doctrine, a vampire whose scepter heals allies and damages enemies, coming in Season 5, and confirmed a Roadhog rework and Sombra's move to support.

Overwatch game director Aaron Keller announced Doctrine, the ninth new hero of the year, at the BlizzCon 2026 opening ceremony. Doctrine is a vampire who carries a scepter that heals allies and damages enemies, moves through fights shrouded in darkness, and commands mechanical bats that empower allies and swarm enemies. He arrives in Season 5.

The reveal came in a new animated cinematic set at Watchpoint Grimsvotn, a supermax prison in Iceland, in which Reaper, Widowmaker, Sombra and Doomfist break out a prisoner: Doctrine, a friend of Doomfist.

Blizzard also confirmed two long requested reworks: updated abilities for Roadhog, and Sombra moving to the support role. More detail is due in the Overwatch deep dive panel later at the show.
