This dropped off Screamslash, a quest mob in Durotar after 1 kill. I'll update this post with more info in the future. Screamslash can be found wandering up and down and is pretty unique in colour so should be hard to miss. Good luck!

I've made some assumptions of my own that relate to your theory. Yes, a carpenter is a real profession in real life; they mostly work with wood, and the mallet is made of wood. One of a few possibilities is that either this is a tool a carpenter uses in real life (as a hammer) for building projects of a greater scale such as maybe a cabinet or shelf. The second possible meaning is that the crafty work -- which can only be seen in model viewer or an extreme closeup in-game -- was created by the skilled hand of a carpenter.
