Nope. New patch update today, the reins will drop and is BoE We were told that Poseidus was getting a new loot table a while back: "Loot from the creatures Garr, Julak-Doom, Mobus, and Poseidus has been adjusted to be commensurate to their rarity and invested effort." Well, there's some proof it's happening! Reins of Poseidus is back and there is a new spell datamined: Subdued Seahorse

Wanted to note that I did not get an Enchant. I did however get a design for Purified Nightstone and the Epic I got was the Gilnean Ring of Ruination. I still can't believe I found this guy, it was totally by accident, I didn't even know he was rare until I saw the epics and my Auctioneer freaked out when giving me the price for the reins, or so I thought. I didn't know anything ever sold for over 100k. Can't decide if I should sell the reins or keep the mount myself. I mean, I'm a bit completionist, trying to collect mounts, companions, and what not, but that's a LOT OF GOLD I could be usin

Just so you guys can see this without going all the way to the end. It can be summoned in any body of water while you are swimming, can not be summoned on land. An important fact, it is the same speed as the Sea Turtle mount you get from fishing Northrend pools, unlike the Vashj'ir only Abyssal Seahorse(which increases your swim speed by 450%...) In fact they have the same "mounted buff" icon and tooltip except the name. edit: very mature to downrate accurate information, hehe.

Hashupa+9via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Indeed he moves as slow as the turtle, but in my opinion this is a fine "replacement" for the turtle. A lot of my guildies expected it to go faster than it does, but when you think about it, it wouldn't make sense for us to get a 450% swimmer outside of Vash.

http://blue.mmo-champion.com/topic/160430/patch-41-public-test-realm-notes-march-22 The reins are probably being given back to Poseidus in 4.1. (Scroll down to quests and creatures) Edit- Not sure why this was downrated, this is true information.

R4ndomizer-4via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

@ Aparchee So true, man ^^... Maybe it works a little bit like aeonaxx-spawns and poseidus has another creature that he shares his timer with. Like tl & vyra or aeonaxx & bloodseeker. His behaviour is also similar. He doesnt leave his place but stays there swimming circles.

Kokiron-3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Hopefully if his spawn is bugged it'll be fixed soon. Reins not linkable at all on Bronzebeard US, been camping since servers went live and haven't seen a thing.

@Aparchee: "I bet you still believe TLPD spawns out of the Engine of the makers too" lmfao totally just spit soda. There are tons of people on Bronzebeard who still camp this spot and insist it spawns there.

545366+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I haven't seen anything either... My realm is surprisingly lacking when it comes to people farming rare mounts, so for the entirety of today and yesterday I've been the only person in the entire of Vash'jir (That i know of, /who doesn't work on horde when you're ally). Nothing. Not one thing :o

ZeldaDragon+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Just an FYI, everything is linkable via Real ID chat. Doesn't have to be seen to link. However, any standard WoW channels, it won't link. Just Real ID, regardless if seen or not. I know this because my realm hasn't seen it yet, & I can't link it in anything but Real ID.

821478+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

No the only way the linking trick works is if you whisper yourself the link, over Real ID it WILL link regardless if it has been learned or not. It will also work by linking in guild chat - that's it no other way for the linking reins trick to work.

thraton+146via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Had a nice chat with a GM. He says that the mount should be BoE. He also says that Poseidus is working as intended. In other words, if no one's seen him yet then he just hasn't spawned yet and is not bugged. What I took from this is that the spawn timer as suspected was greatly lengthened and is likely on par with Aeonaxx and TLPD. He said it's the underpant gnomes fault. When I asked for a spawn timer he said the Wow-CIA would take him if he shared that info.

Saphris-9via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

As soon as Cataclysm came out I started exploring Vash'jir because the questing areas were too crowded and I couldn't get anything done. Since it was within the hour that servers went live i presume i was the first to kill Poseidus but at the time I had no idea what it was as I did not take part in the PTR. After I had killed it, I looted from it 100 gold but nothing else. Their was no mount.

IMissThottbot+296via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Some people seem confused about this mount.

In the Cataclysm beta, Poseidus dropped a blue-quality water mount useable in Vashj'ir.

When Cataclysm came live, this changed--the mount was obtained via quest, and Poseidus was a "common" rare who dropped ~100 gold.

In 4.1, Poseidus was changed again--now he will drop an epic-quality water mount also useable outside Vashj'ir, along with another BoE epic, and his spawn rate has been drastically decreased.

Realm: Bleeding Hollow, US Realm Time: 2am Location: Biel'aran Ridge I decided to sleep on the decision of selling it, and trying for another for myself. But I decided I'd rather have the first for myself. Now for the fun stuff! I hope you have the following! [item=69775] [item=65665] The first thing I noticed was that it wasn't going to be easy to show this baby off to people that don't know about it. After some experimentation I found a few pretty awesome things to make you stand out. [ol] [li]Make sure both the drinking horn buff and burgy's hat are OFF.[/li] [li]Find a spot in the water that borders land that you can walk up onto.[/li] [li]You need to find the closest possible spot, nearest the land, that you can mount your Subdued Seahorse, You must be underwater, yet not losing breath .[/li] [li]Once you find the spot, dismount and use [item=69775], then remount your Seahorse.[/li] [li] If all goes well, it should look something like this.[/li] [li]You can use your burgy hat now also, to get a bit bigger, but that's not the best part.. oh no!...[/li] [li]Type /mountspecial, sit back, and enjoy! :)[/li] [/ol] Ok, ok, here's a short clip for those who aren't lucky enough to own one, yet. Clicky! Notice, this only works when you're in the sweet spot, as we'll call it. If you just mount him normally in the pools of say, Valley of Wisdom or even Vashj'ir, /mountspecial does nothing. Hopefully that will be changed soon, as it's a great animation.

oranj-8via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

This no longer works. /mountspecial does nothing. I'm pretty disappointed with this mount, its 108% speed ie walking speed. And if you jump out of water it vanishes and you have to remount. Why do blizz make such useless items? It's utterly useless!

MercurioGraven+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I'm in the exact same spot you are, and all it does is dismount me when I get anywhere near a floor area. I can manage to do the mountspecial right when I reach the floor, but it dismounts a second later. I guess maybe using Deepstone Oil then would be better, since I can't seem to stay on the ground.

328155+59via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Note: At present, when used in Vashj'ir, this mount is slower than the Abyssal Seahorse. Listed as 269.84% (Subdued Seahorse), 371.03% (Abyssal Seahorse) on the Character Pane or when using the following script: /run print(GetUnitSpeed("target") / 7 * 100); I've also confirmed this by timing how long it takes to travel a fixed distance, and it's definitely slower. Hopefully this will be fixed sometime in the future if it isn't currently working as intended <_< Regardless, this is still an alternative to the turtle; and in my opinion, a better looking, and easier to acquire mount.

Niaw+30via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

I asked a WoW developer I know who frequents the Petopia forums (yes, I know I can't prove that, but anyone who uses the forums regularly knows of him). What I was told was they'd love to have it go as fast as a normal seahorse in Vashj'ir, but they simply weren't able to make it do that *and* have it go normal (turtle) speed in the rest of the world. So it was a choice of either making it fast and restricting to to Vashj, or making it slow and letting it go anywhere. This surprises me since regular mounts switch speed depending on the summoner's skill level, and ground/flying hybrid mounts a

398397-6via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Actually, they could. Each area is a zone and they can set / modify restrictions for each zone. For instance, the zandalari quests. That stupid troll that follows you. only appears in stranglethorn. so all they would have to do is write a conditional statement into the game code that would say "is player in Vash'jir?" if yes then speed +x if no then speed +x. mind you, I don't quite think thats the conditional statement for the code wow is written in, but all I'm saying is it would take just a conditional statement to do so. In short, you don't know a dev personally, you are just sayi

kinigit-1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Niaw, there was a third option available to developers: make both the turtle mount and this mount go as fast as the Abyssal Seahorse. That would have been the outcome best suited for both gameplay and player happiness. However, Blizzard developers consistently and inexplicably fail to reach optimum design decisions like this. If the Abyssal Seahorse's 371% does not negatively impact the experience than there is no reason why the turtle and Poseidus could not also go 371%.

druvirus+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

@kinigit Are you saying making a faster water mount may not negatively affect other's experiences? Because being able to mount through water faster than others could affect quite a lot, especially in PvP. At least with mounts that allow water walking you can replicate that affect through abilities or potions or whatever.

thlayliroo+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

@Dracul1 - Because you're looking at the wrong mount lmao. VASHJ'IR Seahorse is the one that is only usable in Vashj'ir and clearly says so in the tooltip. Reins of Poseidus teaches you SUBDUED Seahorse, which is usable in any water like Jollef said.

Dragoonman+200via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

For Poseidus's spawn points and original pages, go here: [npc=50005]

Poseidus's spawn time seems to range from 72-120 hours and is subject to server restarts, meaning his spawn resets after a maintenance or the weekly restart on Tuesday at 5:00 am.

The weekly maintenance usually ends at 11:00 am server time, meaning he won't spawn till at least Friday at 11:00 am server time and at the latest 11:00 am Saturday.

He will only spawn 1-2 times in an ENTIRE WEEK, so be prepared to never have your wish of getting one fulfilled. If there is a maintenance at some other point besides Tuesday in the week, he may only spawn 0-1 times in that week.

Don't waste your time trying to farm him on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, because he will NEVER spawn on these days as long as there is a server maintenance on Tuesday. If he is killed on Friday, he will not spawn on Sunday at all, but may spawn on Monday/ Tuesday morning if killed just before 5:00 am Saturday morning. If he is killed past 5:00 am Saturday morning, he will not spawn again until Friday.

So, if you are hoping to kill Poseidus, get his precious loot, and waste as little of your time as possible, pay attention. Only camp his spawning points on Friday at 11:00 am to Sunday at 11:00 am, if you do not find him at some point during those 48 hours, he was found and killed by someone else. If you wish to take a swing at your luck, camp his spawning points from 11:00 am Monday morning to 5:00 am Tuesday morning. There is no guarantee that he will spawn on Monday or Tuesday unless he was killed in between 11:00 am Friday to 5:00 am Saturday.

Good luck farming guys and remember that he usually doesn't take 120 hours to spawn, and will most likely spawn after about 96-110 hours as is what the majority of the reports show.

If you think it would be a waste of time farming him, remember that he has been sold in prices ranging from 30k gold to 100k gold, with 100k gold being more common. If you happen to find one being sold for a small amount like 30k, BUY IT AND SELL IT FOR MORE!

In addition to the 270% swimming speed mount that can be used anywhere, he also has a chance to drop one of these three enchants: [item=68788], [item=68787], [item=68789]. He may also drop a 359 BoE world drop as well.

Oh yes, and I should mention that you CAN NOT SKIN HIM, so I'm just throwing that out there if you wanted a chance at some skin... even though it really doesn't matter since you most likely won't be trying to farm him for some savage leather.

In conclusion, killing this rare takes hard work and luck, but the payoff is like nothing ever seen. We are talking tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand gold here.

THIS IS THE BEST RARE ADD EVAR! TAKE ALL THE LOOT!

Good luck guys.

Ozlem+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

^^ This. I agree with Jaromor. Back in Patch 4.2.0 when this post was originally made there was a distinct 'time frame' and he did seem to spawn as stated in OP. However I've recently bagged him again on a Sunday (2:04pm) as well as swam past his corpse 7:14pm on a Tuesday and seen his corpse early (4:37am) on a Wednesday, all since 4.3.2. Having said this most of the campers are out there camping him full-time anyway, this post is purely a more of a FYI for those thinking about committing to the camp.

The 72-120 spawning report is not accurate,my friend had his,and i had mine on WED and THU.. so dont exclude any day from you hunting http://i818.photobucket.com/albums/zz106/mythy1/poseidus1_zps1ed3e8cc.png edit: my statement stays valid, the supposed to be accurate timers do not apply,i just looted 2nd time Poseidus 1/6/2014 6:30 PM,so sunday,no server reset,no AM hour. I wish they would change this and make it bind on pickup. Every other mount that drops from a mob is currently like that. It stinks as a mount collector to hear about someone else getting this mount and then seeing it in the AH for an insane amount of gold from the same person that just killed Poseidus.

Seahnjin+26via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Not sure why you got downrated for telling the truth. Sorry but it's just a little bit frustrating when you're a mount collector to see guys camping Poseidus... on the Poseidus mount they already have. I wish it were BoP too.
