If you throw this on a player's head who already has it on there head it does not register for the achievement.

http://www.wowhead.com/?achievement=291

EDIT: As of 5.4 this is no longer the case. It now comes up with Invalid Target if the player already is wearing it.

I threw one of these at a Hordie in Krasus Landing in Dalaran. It turns out the 100% speed land mounts travel faster than the pumpkin does. He proceeded to run around in circles as I added two more pumpkin fiends to the chase. He's been preserving his good hair day for a good 20 minutes now.

It is compatible with the http://www.wowhead.com/?item=6657, so what's funny is to also use http://www.wowhead.com/?item=21213 and ride around as a pumpkin-headed ninja on a reindeer for an hour.

edit: Damnit, I think they nerfed it so that pumpkin or S.D.D. can't be used together. Seriously WHAT was the harm in allowing these costumes to mix? Come on... :*(

It should be mentioned that only the person who clicks the pumpkin to start the Headless Horseman encounter is able to loot these pumpkins. I was doing repeated runs with a group and noticed that the tank was the only one to get the pumpkins, who would naturally be the one to start the encounter. Next random I started the encounter and looted 5 pumpkins. I got agro right away, though, which was a bummer as a dps. Sorta bad design by blizz.

This is a permanent item that will always remain in your inventory so long as you never use it. Once you use it, it leaves your inventory and goes on your head for one hour. It isn't an item that is equipped, it's simply an inventory item for an hour-long debuff.

Also, druids, this item stays on you even if you shapeshift, unlike the other Hallow's End items. Use 'em up!

For a good time, get on a flight point and use this while riding. You'll get the lantern on your head, but the animation of the jack-o-lantern will be trying to catch up with you the whole time. When you land, you will be so far away from it that you can't see it anymore, but it's still coming after you!

I was flying around when someone threw one at me. I kept flying, then stopped to watch it catch up to me. When it got close I went straight up for several yards, and it didn't follow me until it reached the point where I had gone vertical. I started going up again, and noticed it starting to go forward in the direction I was pointed, rather than continuing straight up. I pointed myself in another direction while still going straight up, and it went forward in the new direction.

I don't know how far one has to go before the pumpkin will give up the chase, though I went through a portal and it didn't catch me on the other side. Yet.

In years past this item was almost given to drop in [item=34077]. After just a few days of Hallow's End, the AH would be stuffed full of these jack-o-lanterns. You could hardly give them away.

But this year the drop rate seems to have been sharply reduced. As a result the value on the AH is climbing noticeably. I had a bank alt with stacks of these things left over from last year, and I was listing them all day at 5G buyout. So if you've got extras or if you already have the achievement, toss your surplus onto the AH and help out those who are seeking the Check Your Head achievement.

As stated before, these items do not vanish at the end of the holiday. Its quite amusing to save up as many of these as you can and start chucking them around during Christmas or in the middle of July to see people's reactions.

You can complete Check Your Head after Hallows End if you are missing any of the target races. The achievement and the incremental steps toward it proc all year, event not required. The Weighted Jack-o'-Lanterns remain in your inventory after Hallows End, and can be traded at the auction House.

There is a moderate demand for the Weighted Jack-o'-Lanterns during the event, and a glut on the supply as Hallows End progresses. After the event, there is very little demand and the only source is ones that are still in toons' inventory. Sell your excess early, while the price is high.

"No longer true for 4.0.1, I just threw it at a gnome with one on and still got credit towards the achievement."

Then you must have thrown one at a player wearing a Hallowed Helm because it still gives the "Invalid Target" warning if someone has already been Jack-o'-Lanterned.

I've noticed that if you've been pumpkin'd, and put on a mask, the mask replaces the pumpkin graphic. Both buffs can be up, however. If you cancel the pumpkin buff with the mask on, the mask becomes invisible (but the buff is still active).

Sure, it's completely irrelevant and useless, but I thought it was interesting.

Here's an interesting trivia fact, you can use this while on a flying taxi. Doing so puts the pumpkin on your head as normal, with an added glitch of leaving a floating pumpkin that will chase after you, as it's slower than the flying mount. A while after you land, you can expect to be hit by a pumpkin...

So far I haven't been able to test yet if you can throw them off... Though that would be cool. Nobody expects the flying pumpkin bomber.

Hmmm... surely Blizz would have one of the vendors sell these, seeing as how they now sell the masks (yay!) and the wands (what, you didn't think I got enough of these visiting all the candy baskets?). But noooooooo... let's make what used to be a super easy achievement into mission improbable.

Maybe a bug, but if you are fighting the headless Horseman with one of these one, and he does the conflagaration; which disorients and "puts a pumpkin on your head", afterwards it will show your character ithout the pumpkin head on, but you will still have the Buff...

Smallfoot+1via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Even if you're not the tank, you can walk up to the summoning pumpkin and click the gear icon. This will NOT start the event. Have the dialogue open with the option to 'Call the Headless Horseman'. If you're not the tank and don't want to catch heat, let the tank start the event and then click. Both you and whomever start the event will give the speech, resulting in a mini-wall'o'text. After the horseman falls, you should have rights to looting the jack o lanterns. (Still trying to confirm if only the last person to click gets the item. I don't want to encourage ninja activity, if that's

If you are like me, and don't like this buff, if you put the following into a macro, it will cancel the effect.

/cancelaura Jack-o'-Lanterned!

Since the patch, I've had a GM ticket open almost 24/7, and cannot just click it off. So I made this macro to help.
