Rock and Mineral Collecting
Read the ground for what it is made of. Mining, but the ore is the point.
Wears the Classic spell Mining. The trades: the skills that feed, clothe, fix, and furnish a life.
Learning the ranks
Ten common minerals
Learn ten common minerals by the field tests: streak, hardness (the scratch kit is quartz, steel, fingernail), and heft. Label everything on day one.
Learn the local geology
Learn what your area's rocks actually are and where public collecting is allowed. Etiquette: fill your holes, take a few, leave the site for the next prospector.
Specialize
Specialize (fossils, fluorescence, crystals), build a labeled collection with localities, and join a club show. A documented collection is science; a bucket of rocks is a bucket.
Infinite Knowledge is a guide, not a substitute for certified instruction where lives, limbs, or law are involved.
