No, the person who had read "Nat Pagle's Extreme' Anglin" so thoroughly was probably a treasure hunter. As it says on the last page of the real book, Nat Pagle himself wasn't searching for it. He stumbled onto The Ashbringer while fishing.

Haha.. yeh! and yust to mention it.. Before Blizzard made it posibl to get the sword from "The 4 horsemen", pepol actuly thought to get The Ashbringer u had to FISH it up from some sort of hidden lake! most pepol guessed in the litle pool behind the rogue hut in Hillsbrad Foothills mountain... But think about it, if it actuly was a super duper rare fishing drop.. pepol would be fishing like mad!

There is one location ( I run a private server and found it in scripts, don't ask me how long it took ) in the Deeprun Tram. There are a few ways to get into the tanks and supposedly there is a thresher in there, which I haven't seen. Just look on youtube to figure out how to get into the tank. But, if you get into the right one (in the south tank) there is a small spot to stand for air. Also it's on a piece of coral so you are standing. Hmm, sounds like a great time to fish, eh? Well...it has as far as I can tell, a 0.1 drop rate, so good luck. Oh, and getting in the tank as aforementioned isn't easy either. Best of luck.

I feel like this is a reference to those players who are trying really hard to unlock how to get the Ashbringer, since the first book says on how Nat Pagle found it. People are still looking for the damned thing, despite Blizz (and Tirion no less) saying no one can get it. Period.

Funny you saay that, He made this comment in 2011 long before that artifact existed, and now as of recently, he is actually like a few other comments from long ago, correct about this book being needed for Ashbringer. Well done sir, you look like a fool on the internet forever! +1!

And now, as of Legion, the item has been upgraded to common quality.. Intriguing!

Edit: And now we know why! Along with [item=18229] it's needed for one of the steps to acquire the [item=139566]. I love how they've implemented all those elements from the original Ashbringer speculation!

Shout out to all those palas out there going nuts b/c of the "new" Corrupted Ashbringer: Do yourself a GREAT favor and try not to farm [item=18365] with your paladin. You will spend too much time. The book is not BoP, thus tradable. So... You probably have already noticed that your paladin is so slow in this expansion in comparison to other classes. Three seconds of [spell=190784] with a CD 45 sec is a joke, even if you can use it twice. And [spell=202273] is hard to keep up and thus a pain in the ass - besides, what are 20 % if even a shaman for example gets 30 % permanently? Now, this is the problem: While the book itself is almost a 100 % drop from [object=179547], the tome itself has not a 100 % chance to appear. So as long as your not one lucky chap you will find yourself running DM over and over again. Plus: Old instance, long ways to run, just to see your tome not there. For the reasons above I highly recommend you to use a Demonhunter to farm instead. Even a fresh Lvl 100 is fine. Due to his [spell=185164] his movement speed is permanently greatly increased (Lvl 100 quest gear: 20 %). But what's even better: With his Super-Mario-Double-Jump and gliding, a DH can easily overcome chasms. Now this will save you lots of time. What you want to do is, go to DM EAST with your DH. There will be two tomes that are of interest for you, one close to the entrance and the second next to the first boss [npc=14327]. Luckily, for the first one you will not have to run around the whole court. As a DH you can simply double jump (in dangerous situations use [spell=195072]) over the chasm on the left next to the entrance. The first book can be found right next to the group of [npc=13022] with a bit of luck. The next one will be, as said, close to [npc=14327] at the far rear left end. In case you were not lucky, had back to the entrance and reset the instance. If you're really lazy and don't want to waste your time with actively searching for the second tome, you can also just focus on the first, since you will see whether it's there or not right when you get into the instance even before you jump. However, I have found the second tome to be significantly more often there than the first. And of course there is a limit to resetting the instance. Oh, and by the way: Now that you know a way to easily farm the book....it can be sold on the auction house. tl;dr Use a demonhunter to farm the book at DM EAST instead of your pally. It'll save you a lot of time.

Thought I'd add this tip since it helped me find the book quickly: If you've already jumped over to check near Lethtendris, you can turn and run south along the ledge a ways to look down to where the tome can spawn in the garden area below. This way you can check 3 spots without spending too much time running up and down. It's easily visible from the ledge if you angle your camera a bit, but it does take some practice to see where it can spawn while you're on the ledge. I was hoping Spectral Sight would help me see that spot from above, but it unfortunately doesn't work for the tome.

I never tried a Demon Hunter. The toon a use for a lot of farming, is just a BM hunter with a speed set, I run at 165.5% without cds and Disengage gives you plus 50% every 20 secs, aspect of the cheetah brings me to 255%. Engineering helps a lot, the loot-a-rang really speeds things up, and Jeeves lets you empty your bags right in the instance.

I spent about 90 minutes running Dire Maul East over and over on my Demon Hunter, checking all 4 spots and then teleporting in/out via Proving Grounds until I hit my instance cap.

I found 4 tomes in that time, which are currently ~15k on my server.

I just paid for a month of WoW time under 2 hours. Not too shabby!

I decided to straighten out a lot of information about this item and where it can be found so that people can farm it more easily. This should be just about everything you need to know (as well as things you probably didn't care to know) in order to collect your book or to start farming it.

Concluding Thoughts: [ul] [li]This book is a lot more common than its counterpart, therefore its value should not remain high. Farming this book is incredibly easy.[/li] [li]I may have not looked hard enough in Run 4, but it is a safe bet that there is at least one book in each lockout[/li] [li]Up until Run 16 I would run all of the dungeons even if I had looted the book previously in order to see if there could be two per lockout. My evidence shows that it is very unlikely, so you would save a lot of time resetting after finding one[/li] [li]In my opinion, a Druid, Demon Hunter, Monk, or Rogue would be good fits for collecting these. They have good, frequent speed boosts that would significantly cut run time. A Demon Hunter can perform their double jump as well as glide. However, a rogue cannot use their grappling hook (Minor edit: A rogue can use their grappling hook, but not to get up to higher locations in the dungeon).[/li] [/ul]
