I highly reccomend doing all six races naked as if you are knocked off you will likely die, and suffer a durability hit =(

As stated previously, its good to do these without your damageable gear equipped to save yourself a lot of expenses.

A good way I found to do these races is to fly directly above them with a Noggenfogger. The noggenfogger really helps to shrink the character on screen without having to zoom into first person. The npc's occasionally do u-turns and 360's so don't panic if something like that happens.

Also, you might want to check out this video or others for help as to how to easily accomplish your task.

The races before Wing Commander Mulverick can be fairly easily accomplished without a paladin friend for Crusader Aura or with a Riding Crop, although both would make things much easier. The race against Mulv is difficult without either of them but is possible. The following race against Captain Skyshatter is possible without either aswell but is very difficult. What I would suggest doing is to get a pair of boots such as Linen Boots and put Mithril Spurs on them. Also, get a pair of gloves like Heavy Linen Gloves and look for an enchanter to do Riding Skill to them. If you still have one, use Carrot on a Stick. If you haven't done the quest, it starts with this quest. One thing to note is that if you're going to kill Gahz'rilla then make sure you get the Mallet (to get the mallet, you need to kill Qiaga the Keeper for the Sacred Mallet. Take this to the Jintha'Alor altar which is located at 59, 77 in the Hinterlands. Use the Mallet at the altar and you will get the Mallet.) White/normal quality boots and gloves are good because once you're finished with them then you can give them to an alt character to help him move about the world quicker. The three of those items can indeed stack, and according to the post made on this page they will allow you to move at 414.2% flying speed. Those three items are cheap and easy to get and 2 of them can be given to an alt once you get your Skybreaker Whip.

After finishing each race you are awarded with a gold reward aswell as some Netherwing reputation. The gold reward aswell as the reputation you gain increases as you do harder races. When you beat Captain Skyshatter you're awarded a Skybreaker Whip. The Riding Crop cannot stack with the Skybreaker Whip or any other enchant/speed boosting object, as stated on this page.

Be careful that, once you take this quest, you have to turn toward the runway and get the quests from each NPC on his mount. Once you defeat him in the "race" quest, then go back to Ja'y Nosliw to complete the quest and go the next step.
