No need to kill lots of mobs to start this. The quest item drops from the chest at 79,27.
This quest drops of mobs in Nazjatar... I got mine off a WQ mob nearby, my hubby got his somewhere else.
After you enter the cave at 60.68, 31.85 (thank you mville) click the missing crystal, then click the stone-bowl-cauldron thingy rotating nearby. An amalgamation will spawn. Defeat it, then turn in at the chest. Rewards 7 prismatic manapearls.
Another quest will pop up at the floating book. While the crystals are sparkling again, I didn't click one but went straight to the stone-bowl again, which summoned another amalgamation - Elite this time. Elite dropped a scrying stone, and the quest turn in gave 5 more mana pearls.
Worth noting I was not on this quest but was with someone who was... we were phased to each other.
