I have had problems getting the Muddy Tracks to be interactable on two characters. On one a simple relog fixed it, on the other, I've not been able to do this quest because nothing I have tried makes the tracks usable.

If your having issues interacting with the tracks reload your interface [ /reload ui ] in chat pain. if problem still persists disable all addons. had the same issue as well
I noticed that with a small degree of latency it's possible to click on the Muddy Tracks multiple times before they disappear, actually resulting in more than one quest credit per track that you find. If you're lucky, it seems that this quest can be completed by finding only two or three tracks, and not five.
Thing is: you'll probably find five or more tracks before you finish the other quests in the area (Ignition; Competition Schmompetition) so it might not make that much difference anyways.

Description
Hey {name}, do you see this footprint? We found them all over the camp last night! Nothing's missing, but all our belongings have been...examined. The muddy trails lead back toward the Sludge Fen. Someone's been sniffing around, and I don't like it one bit. Can you go west to the Sludge Fen and investigate? See if you can find any more tracks just like this one!
