Most of the comments on this page are about what this spell ID used to be, namely Unholy presence. Back in the days when stances were a thing, Death knights had presences as their version. One was a tanking one, one was general dps, and the last one Unholy was plus haste and plus movement speed. For a time the movement speed bonus had been baked into a passive for unholy death knights, but eventually it was entirely removed, and unholy no longer had any mobility advantages over it's fellow death knights.

The current ability is the all spec death's advance. It's not the most speedy of sprint-style effects, but the true bonus is that snares are largely ineffectual against you. Where as some of the strongest snares in the game can bring your speed down to 30 or lower, even the worst snare will never bring you below 70%, or 100% while this is active. The active ability also makes you unable to be forced to move, as much like the name suggests, you are as hard to stop as the advance of death itself. Combined with your death grip, and while it's true other people might be faster than you, you'll still make your way to them at a steady pace, like a terminator.

Formerly this was in fact the talent, with Wraithwalk being baseline but they switched it around. Death knights can combine both talents to be mobile but keep in mind they aren't ever going to be a prime mobile class as part of their fantasy.

I agree. Unholy Presence, if paying attention to your cool downs, is awesome for leveling/grinding in normal world situations. You have to be quick and on the ball though. A must for PVP as well. Quick burst of attacks is what you want in PVP. Blood Presence is used for those longer fights. Raiding as a DPS DK I would go Blood. I can't believe there are so many comments debating this o.O

Unholy Aura does not increase your own movement speed if you are already in Unholy Presence. It merely extends the movement speed benefit of Unholy Presence to your party/raid members, and also, allows you to move at Unholy Presence speed while in a non-Unholy presence.

This is the one you will want to use in a pvp situation, where you want to dish out all you got, as fast as you can, and chase them down if they try to run. For pve I would have to say that blood is the thing to use =) And then frost for tank (duh) =p

I find this presence great for grinding and levelling - for longer fights, of course, I'd go with Blood Presence, but in short fights being able to disease them really fast, let off my Heart Strikes and finish them with Obliterate - well, it's very GCD heavy, because I'm not really bothering that much with refreshed runes. Oh, and it can be an increase in DPS with Death Coil.

Well, it's been found out that there is one certain spec that benefits more from Unholy Presence then Frost Presence. And that is Frost 2H PvE spec. This is because runic power will fly all over your screen and you will need the extra GCDs to pump out more Frost Strikes.

Unholy is definitely the presence of choice for solo questing. It doesn't matter if my runes are ready when I'm done with my rotation, because very few mobs will survive that long. Being able to unload all of your abilities faster means the mobs die sooner -- and the movement speed doesn't hurt. Certainly in a sustained fight against a raid boss, there's more argument, but I find the amount of healing from blood presence to be negligible while soloing, and 15% more damage doesn't make as much of a difference as a shorter global cooldown.

I recently went back to play my DK and noticed the different wording. It used to say that the movement speed buff did not stack with other similar effects (I'm speaking of the increased "movement speed by 15%"). Now it no longer mentions this.

Has this changed? Do similar effects (such as the enchant Tuskar's Vitality) stack with this buff now?

Edit: I was just in Forge of Souls, we wiped once at last boss and as we came back in a hunter in the group used Aspect of the Pack. I noticed that when the Hunter was near me and I was in reach of the Pack aura, I *DID* move faster. It was funny because I would speed up to the point of moving ahead of the aura's reach, then I'd slow down until the aura caught up to me then I'd speed back up, run ahead of the aura's reach and slow back down.

This, to me, proves that yes, the speed increasing effect of Unholy Presence and Improved Unholy Presence does stack with other movement increasing effects. I'll be getting speed enchant for boots to help catch strays while tanking.

What most people have failed to realize about this spell is the travel-time between mobs, and killing mobs on a single-rotation gain a lot of benefit from this presence.

  • .5 seconds off of a 1.5 sec GCD is a 33% increase in damage. (roughly)

  • 15% run speed causing travel-time while walking between mobs to be reduced.

  • vs 15% from Blood Presence

Unless your doing aoe, every time, all of the time, unholy presence is really nice for those single-target, single-kill scenarios while grinding. If you can kill your target in a single rotation, it's perfect.

This presence also may benefit frost more than other talent builds since frost seems to be "designed" for dual-wielding (I never said it was a good design, but it seems like the higher-up talents are 'made' for it), and frost is based a lot on using runic power and generating lots of runic power and being able to dump it. Unholy presence may allow you to slip in more buttons before you start using runes, instead of runic power again.

I tried frost presence (the new blood for cata) and unholy presence in an unholy spec and noticed a dps increase using unholy presence since there is no time that i don't have some ability to use.

I did this test with just a premade dk w/o gems glyphs, or enchants, so it may vary a bit, but i wanted to just test a basic setup.

Unholy Presence is allot better in Cataclysm.
But even in WotLK, it was always good for brust DPS
In WotLK my DPS was duel spec-ed and both were unholy.
I had a single target and AoE DPS build and it worked amazingly
Normal Mobs I was in my AoE DPS spec and was always in Unholy Presence
But when fighting bosses I went Single Target DPS and switched to Blood Presence
All that aside, Unholy has always been burst DPS and isn't meant for boss fights
PvP, soloing, and normal mobs, go Unholy. Boss fights, go Frost.

Actually, you're wrong there. I can't remember the article, but for melee characters, movement speed increase is very beneficial to overall damage done on fights like TK Kael, where you're running from mob to mob.

Agreed, unholy presence is awesome for the solo farming/questing market. It also gives better uptime on rune of the fallen crusader, leading to more dead mobs and less healing, assuming you somehow manage to need it.

192690+3via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

He said he was talking about situations where you can kill mobs in one rotation (i.e. soloing mobs while leveling). By the time all your runes are on cooldown, the mob is either dead or so close to dead that a Death Coil will finish it off. Your runes will refresh while you loot and move to the next mob.

Stormwaker+2via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

Also, it's good for just moving quicker in a PvE situation. Moving quicker inside a space where you can't mount can give you the advantage over players who can't move as quickly or have spells to do so, allowing you to get to the mob faster, or in PvP, that fleeing ganker who failed to kill you.

Despite the effect here states that it grants immunity vs roots ("Apply Aura: Add Creature Immunity (?) (Asleep, Charmed, Disarmed, Disoriented, Distracted, Snared, Fleeing, Rooted, Silenced)"), it does not work against [npc=166945]'s [spell=320788]. [spell=212552] on the other hand does work against it.

This is now the must-use presence for Frost and Unholy DKs. Apparently, even with Improved Frost Presence, using Frost Presence is always a DPS loss, unless it is a very AOE intense fight. Then you would switch to Frost, then back into Unholy for the remainder.

536297+0via Wowhead (opens the original comment in a new tab)

even without factoring in you percentages the fact is... unholy lets you get out your single rotation (enough to kill any mobs - par @#$%ly geared DK's) within a shorter time... and seeing as you get "Rune of the Fallen Crusader" at the same time as you get Unholy presence. easy choice... Fallen Crusader heals > Blood Pres Heals and fast kills = less damage = less down time DW Frost dps/tanking ftw! xD
