This was the last Blizzcon promotional-item that could not be simply earned by purchasing the Virtual Ticket to Blizzcon. When you see someone with this mount/achievement, this is someone who either actually went to Blizzcon, or bought this mount for the somewhat substantial price that it can fetch off eBay. Also, this is the last Blizzcon mount for the foreseeable future. They have established the routine of Murloc-based pets as a reward for Blizzcon. (Much the way that baby drakes have become the Collector's Edition first choice.) With Grunty, the Murloc Marine being the first and Deathy, the Murloc-version of Deathwing being the second.
EDIT: Original was posted over one year ago. This remains true. Most Blizzcon rewards you see in-game were most likely purchased through the Virtual Ticket opportunities and not by someone who actually went. Which makes the older Blizzcon awards more prestigious in my mind.
Not entirely true. Mine came from ordering the DirectTV coverage.
