It's possible to solo Guarm on all difficulties with low tier 8.3 gear. (I was a havoc DH ilvl444, v low corruption).
Unlike Odyn, you don't need anything specific to make it easier, except to be able to output a ton of damage for mythic.

Guarm has 3 dispellable debuffs: [spell=227539], [spell=227566] and [spell=227570]. You have 1 on you: All good. You get 2 on you: You die.
Guarm Lick abilities should also be watched out for. They will target you, then soon after apply an effect where you were stood. The only effect to worry about is Frost Lick, which will stun you. Moving constantly is probably the easiest way to avoid this.

On Normal/Heroic you only need to avoid his breath, or to make sure you stick to the same segment. Ie: stand in the fire part once, only ever stand in the fire part. It's easy.

On Mythic, he gets Volatile Foam. This will apply one of the debuffs, so without any way to remove them you will have your death warrant signed on the 2nd cast of this spell. The easiest way to deal with this is to go in guns blazing and kill Guarm before Guarm kills you. I had to use drums and an augment rune, and even then it took me several attempts, likely only succeeding because of rng. The higher your ilvl the easier this will be, switch to a dps spec if you're normally a healer/tank.
As an alternate method, apparently you can break LoS somewhere in the room, which may be easier for low ilvl characters to attempt, but I haven't tried this myself.

As a side note. If you pull all the mobs up to Guarm and don't immediately burst them down, you may find that you start taking a ton of damage. That's because [npc=114539] can make you drown. Not recommended if you don't have any self healing.

Abilities & Strategy

Overview

Guarm's Guardian's Breath unleashes three elements: Fire, Nature and Shadow. Guarm gains a stack of Frothing Rage for every player not hit by one of his breath attacks. Taking damage from Guardian's Breath will result in a debuff: Fiery Phlegm, Salty Spittle or Dark Discharge. Gaining any two of these is deadly. Periodically Guarm will become more mobile and aggressive, casting Roaring Leap andHeadlong Charge.
