Formula: Large Prismatic Shard

Note that it is not possible to "level up" using this recipe with all the extra shards you have lying around. By the time you are high enough to learn it, the enchant will already be gray to you.

(At least for me it was a pain to have a long queue of 1's one after another so I changed to having more shards)

There's no need to confirm this works at all. It was never a bug that blood elves could skillup on it, rather a bonus for being a blood elf with a racial that gives +10 enchanting. Every single post below here saying the "bug" is or isn't working is just posting misinformation as all it has to do with is that everyone but blood elves have the skill as gray when they learn it, while blood elves learn it 10 points lower (325 + 10 = 335) and thus can gain 10 points with it if they have an awful lot of time. It. Is. Not. A. Bug.

This is possibly a decent money maker for an enchanter. We already know its near impossible to turn a profit after skilling to 375, and having to create 10 different rods that are more and more expensive as you go. BUt, check the AH frequently... these shards can go as low as 2G depending if several people are underbidding each other. If you can buy 3 of these, for cheaper then the price of a large Prismatic.... Do it, create a large prismatic, and go make a profit.

Although webtekkie is correct that this recipe will be gray when you get it, I managed to still get skillups from it. I leveled 136-140 using this recipe, and got a skillup every time. I'm not sure how much more I could get out of it, since it was gray the whole time, and I used Superior Wizard to get to 150. Presuming my case wasn't a fluke, this would probably be the best way to get from 35-40, since you can just resell the Large Prismatic Shards for about as much, if not more, than the smalls cost.

The skillups were a bug. The issue will be fixed in 2.2 - from these patch notes: "Large Prismatic Shard: It is no longer possible to gain skill points in Enchanting from this recipe."

[b]As of 2.4.1, I can confirm that the bug is still in effect.[/b] However, [u]only Blood Elves[/u] can benefit from this bug. Due to their [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=28877]Racial Ability[/url] it allows them to gain ten free skill ups by converting a [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22449]Large Prismatic Shard[/url] into three [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?item=22448]Small Prismatic Shards[/url] and back again. Even though the ability appears gray, a Blood Elf enchanter can make it from 335 to 345 skill enchanting at no cost to them. Only the conversion from [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=42615]three Small Prismatic Shards to one Large Prismatic Shard[/url] is effected by the bug. Therefore, you will only have the chance to gain skill ups half of the time (since the other half of the time you'll be converting back to three Small Prismatic Shards). This can make for a fairly lengthy session in gaining your ten free levels. While I was able to get the first few levels quickly, it probably took about 20 minutes to get all ten.

This is exactly right. I just skilled up from 240-245 by processing back and forth as a level 78 BE enchanter. Not a bug of course --- it's due to the BE racial enchanting ability. The recipe went gray at 245.

As of 05/07/2008, I can confirm this bug has definitely not been fixed. My Blood Elf just got from 335 to 345 converting back and forth.

Doing this is quite a decent way to make cash on my server as small prismatic's are a max of 10 gold whle large prismatic's are a minimum of 35 gold. As for the bug i will test it once i get this formula.

Confirmed as of 25 may 08 you can still receive skill ups from 1 large prismatic shard to 3 small prismatic shards. With blood elf enchanters. Note it will take awhile, one post said no skill up in 10 tries. I have done it over 100 times to get the 10 points, quite worth it to do so. Hey after all free skillups are nice.

Can confirm as well that the blood elf trick works. I got skill ups from 336-340 fast then it stopped, but it does work. Took roughly 6 minutes to get the 4 skill ups.

Worked for me today once i got 335 enchanting on my Blood elf, Took about 10-15 minutes to get 10 free levels.. I'm not complaining :P

It's not a bug that you can gain skill-ups from converting prismatic shards back and forth with blood elves.

Just more proof that blizz loves/plays horde :(

And either One Large Prismatic Shard or Three Smalls.

Be sure that you have obtained [b]both [/b]spells so you can transfer the three into one and back again over and over. It takes doing so a few times but I can confirm that it definitely just worked for me!

I picked up both formulas in Shattrath City - one from [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=19663]Madame Ruby[/url] and the other from the Seer's Library in the southernmost tip of the Scryer's Tier. Follow this map location for [url=http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=18530]Voren'thal the Seer[/url] and you'll run into the bookshelves.

Right-click the Enchanting bookshelf in the first row, second from the right. Not sure if you can get both from that bookshelf - perhaps try there first just in case.

Confirmed working 01/02/20010 Large to small enchant is green at 342 on my blood elf. I gained points from it just fine.

Confirmed still working 22/02 Until 341 its quite quick, then the last 4 can be painfully slow.

This must have been Hotfixed as both recipes are now Grey once learned. No more "exploit" :(

They've been Grey for ages - that's why it was called a bug. You gain points by doing it even though it's greyed out..

Confirmed still working Patch 3.3.3 (For Blood elves only, because of racial). It takes a while but yes. you will get there eventually. dont stop

Was able to level off this recipe AS A BLOOD ELF as of 4.0.6. 335 to 345. Recipe was green and took 6 "sessions" of 5 Large Prismatic Shards. (60 transforms) so be patient. That's also with [spell=83949].

This still works in 4.2 as a BE. Gained the 10 extra points for transforming. Had to do it 24 times to get the 10 points. But well worth it considered i got the small shards for only 2 gold for 40 of them. (nexus transformation from 301-315 is very cheap and easy)

Just learned it at exactly 335...grey. Made 4 and no leveling. They have to be kidding me. Who comes up with this stuff.

confirmed its now MoP and Blood Elves cannot learn the enchanting recipe at 325 I just confirmed this on my level 61 blood elf rogue Aishá even with the racial ability for enchanting for the 10 points can only learn it at 335 and its grayed out also once you learn it since you cannot level from it which is a shame

You can still get 10 points via this in MOP as a blood elf. When you learn it it is greyed out, yes.....but small prismatic shard is green still. So just keep converting back and forth until small shard recipe goes grey at 345. I think you misunderstood which one was giving the skill ups.

No I tried to do that sorry, it wouldn't give me any skillups at all :)
