This just dropped for me in Uldaman. I am not sure of the exact mob it dropped from, as I am looting in huge piles at a time, but it was from one of the trash mobs leading up to the room with Archaedas. Just thought I'd note that, since Uldaman isn't on the loot table.

I can confirm that it does drop from lesser Darkmoon Prize, just got one on 9/10/2011. Got the lesser block enchant yesterday on 9/9/2011. These lesser Darkmoon Prizes are really no different than finding and opening a large iron bound chest. However, you can grind and farm items for the tickets; therefore farming the Darkmoon Prizes. It's practically impossible to farm chests in the same amount of time. Lesser Darkmoon Prize is definitely the fastest and most efficient way to get this and some other 'rare' low level random world drop recipes.

Yes, it's like a normal enchant that an enchanter would do for you, only a Blacksmith applies it. Be aware though, it IS a permanent enchant effect, which means you can't have a weapon chain AND your nice blood-dripping savagery enchant.

This item is not specefic to certain mob's loot tables, its a World Drop. Meaning that you could kill anything around level 40 to get it. Personally i got mine while grinding xp outside Booty Bay (From Elder Mistvale Gorillas) and it is not a listed drop rate on any wow site that i have seen. A popular place to farm this is Scarlet Monestary Army and Cathedral from the chest and some of the mobs. Do not get your hopes up to high on snagging this, as its miniscule drop rate can lead to months of farming without yeilding the plan

Dropped 7/29/18 Maraudon last wing, Earth Song Falls off the pack of 4 Diemetradons before you enter the final cave with the Croc boss and Princess Theradras. Was just in there taking screenshots for a guild SS competition..... On my blacksmith no less :)

Except using a chain means you can't put perfectly good weapon enchants on the weapon, so you're faced with the same problem. For the typical Arms warrior, it's probably not worth losing Savagery (or something like that) over 2 talent points and that extra 4 weapon skill is not entirely worthless. But as said the chains are nice for everyone else.

Time to reconsider, as of patch 2.3 they are redoing the talent for Warriors to do, and I quote: "The Arms talent Weapon Mastery is going to be significantly changed. Instead of providing 50/100% chance to avoid Disarm effects, it is going to reduce the duration of Disarm effects by 25/50%. The reason for this is that having full immunity with this talent really took the idea of disarming out of the game and we want it to be more viable."

I bought this on the auction house for 2500 gold. Well worth it since I have never seen these on the auction house and I play on one of the highest servers in the game. These plans in my opinion of farming blacksmithing recipes is definatly one of the hardest and rarest out there.

Your best bet is to check out either the official forms for your server and ask who can make a chain for you or check out wowwiki's page for your server and they usually have a listing of people with rare craft recipes. The recipe itself can be found on the AH from time to time but still goes for 200-400g.

If you try to swap weapons while disarmed, you get a message saying "you cannot do that while disarmed". Edit: I also would like to add... I miss the immunity to disarm that the weapon chains used to give. As a lower melee toon leveling up, most people cant justify putting enchants on a weapon that you will soon outgrow. Having a weapon with a chain on it was always something to keep in your bag for when you are fighting rogue type mobs that disarm (Stocks, SM, Syndicates in hillsbrad etc). Its very painful for a warrior to be disarmed, as the only thing you can really do is pop intimid

There is a beautiful tab on top that says "Dropped by", now if that is to hard for you, there are several people above you said were they got it. On topic, i found this on AH for about 50s, and as Thorandric said, dont sell these, use them, you will make tons of gold from it.

(Not all classes can spec to prevent disarming for those classes that cannot [or those speced differently] there this little beauty right here)
I found this recipie off of Elder Mistvale Gorillas in Mistvale Valley in STV
I was not even trying to get it (I did not know it even exsisted until i got it) and it took my between 9 and 10 hours of killing the gorillas...
The drop rate for SM is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY LOW and id say its even lower for things like Elder Mistaves, and this is without doubt one of the hardest to obtain recipies in the game...
Do not auction this item off (the high gold at once may tempt you but DONT!)
Use it... its a virtual gold mine
In less than 2 and a half weeks i made 250g off of tips alone (and another 50-100g from selling the ones i made with my materials)(which imo is excellent expecially for a profession below 250) and i am one of the few if not the only one who posses it on the Ysera Server (Thorandric)...
Point Being its more profitable in the long run to use it than it is to auction the plans themselves (This is a repost of "Steel Weapon Chain")
EDIT: I no longer am a blacksmith, and i cannot make these anymore (sorry for any inconvience)

I just got this last night, it's the second one i've found after playing the game for a year and a half to two years. I found it in a chest in SM, I found my first one in the cave at Kurzens Compound in STV when I was leveling my first character to 60, gave that one away to a friend, this one i'm keeping so I can make Steel Weapon Chains, i'm a happy camper right now. =)

Wow. I had always wanted this plan, and haven't heard of anyone on my server knowing this plan, but got it off of one of the Maurader Scouts outside of Maraudon. No where near the places listed by WoWHead. Always pays to go back to the old world and farm enchanting and tailoring mats for an alt :)

Too bad I'm on the Mac Client, or else I'd have the addon running.

I found it in a chest in SM Cathedral. I didn't realize it was rare... was still fairly new and a guildie was helping me through. I regularly sell them (the chains) for 20-40G. All depends. If I under value them, no one buys them. I've tried to sell them at 10-15G and no one ever buys them. If I put them in at 50G no one buys them. But at 20-40G I usually sell about 2 per day. No one knows to look for them though.
