So, based on the icon name, I'm guessing that this will allow people to use lock gateways if they're in range of them without having to click on them. This opens up the opportunity to be able to keybind our use of them. Has anyone confirmed this?

The tooltip is all wrong. Waste of an inventory slot. It says "activate the nearest gateway", which it DOES NOT. It will only active the normal clicking range. Maybe it would be worth a key bind, if they made it a toy, so it didn't take precious inventory space, but not worth it as-is, and the description is wrong. It also says you can sell it back tot he vendor; "vendor buy price 100g", but that's not true either. The vendor doesn't want it.

The tooltip is technically inaccurate, but you'd have to be some kind of dork to think it's going to let you activate the nearest gateway regardless of distance and you can teleport across the map. Also, it's 100g, there's nothing to waste.

This item can be added to your hotbar and will remain inactive/greyed out, until you get around ~5 yards (the usable range for the gateway), once it will light up, and once you click it, you fly away!

I can confirm this easily. In Normal SOD on Soulrender, I was just out of range trying to use it and it caused a delay in breaking my chain. Thankfully it was only normal so I just used my Interact with Keybind instead, which moved me to the portal and then used it to break my chain.

Useless garbage, takes up bag space. I thought it would use the closest gateway, as it says, but it doesn't work at all, unless you're in clicking range, so there's no point. It just takes up an inventory slot, and it says the vendor buy price is 100g, so I thought I could try and sell it back, but the vendor doesn't want it. Sure it's only 100g, but nothing in the tool tip is correct.

If anyone, like me, thought this would allow you to use Demonic Gateways from warlocks that are not in your party, that's not what it does. It only allows you to easily keybind/macro the use of Demonic Gateway when in range.

No, actually extremely useful. Consider for instance when your raid is doing a boss like Soulrender Dormazain where you will put down a lock portal to go from left to right and vice versa to dodge the pizza slices. Instead of yelling at everyone to not stand on the portal because you can't click on it, you can just go near it and click the DGS instead.

Did they change the internal cooldown of this or something? It no longer is able to be cast right after casting a gateway. Macros that use this right after casting a gate with soulburn don't work anymore. It says "You can't do that yet" every time I try to use it. Not sure when they changed it, but sucks you can't instant gateway anymore.

Like mentioned elsewhere in the comments this item has kind of been superseded by the "Interact With Target" keybind, and saves you a bag slot. You can turn this on in the Options menu under Gameplay > Controls. Simply tick "Enable Interact Key" and set a keybind for "Interact With Target". "Interact With Target" works on a plethora of different objects in the game and is not just limited to Demonic Gateways. I've been using it extensively since Dragonflight and it makes interacting with the world (of Warcraft) a hell of a lot easier.

The Gateway Control Shard is in no way is replaced or emulated by Interact With Mouseover in any way shape or form. The control shard allows for gateway use to be bound to hotkeys with no concern for who or what you are currently targeting or where you mouse pointer currently is. Furthermore, the control shard can be included in macros. The control shard will always be faster than manually scrolling over and interacting with, possibly by only a fraction of a second, but sometimes that the difference between life and death. A keybind is always in the exact same place every time, no matter what.

The interact key can be key bound, so that point is moot. The different being that you have to be facing the item you want to interact with to use it. So if you are between a boss and a gateway, you'd have to turn to use the interact keybind, making the control shard superior as you don't have to be facing the gateway.
