TheWoWDBA key thing to note is that you don't actually have to harvest the pumpkin to complete the quest, so you could easily remove the crop after planting it and plant something else, for the next day's harvest(like any of the seeds that require Revered with Tillers). Unless you're going to use it for the +300 int food that is.

This quest (along with all the "plant this seed" quests) becomes obsolete once you inherit the farim from Yoon - or rather, it gets replaced by the faction work orders.
