TheWoWDBInstead of worrying about aiming, get in the cannon, turn all the way towards the direction they are coming from and spam fire. They will be grouped up because of the angle they are flying in at and VERY easy to hit quickly.

This quest is simple, but potentially a little confusing. Head to the upper (covered) level at (7.07, 70.35) in the Vale. You'll see turrets surrounding the platform. Click to mount one.
Your only targets are the [npc=63973]s that are flying fairly far in the distance, not the large packs of mobs on the ground; it almost looks like you can target the ground mobs. When you aim the turret, fire as soon as you see the globe target reticule at the end of the trajectory line. Your shot will connect. Focus on groups, as the shots do splash damage.
Tried cannons on South side of tower, trickier to mount. One of them I saw swarmers but never got credit for kills, other one there were no swarmers (and yeah, tried logging out and back in.
Cannons on North side of tower worked fine, took about 30 seconds to complete quest.
