TheWoWDBI did this quest three times before realising you were meant to use the Harvestbot Remy at /way #2215 63.6 33.4, to kill the 60 fungal enemies with fire. He's annoyingly slow, and won't move while casting though, so it's easier just to attack them.

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to use the Harvestbot and are instead supposed to use the Hallowfall Scythes that you can pick up around the area.
Yeah you're meant to use the scythes, that's why there's an optional objective to pick one up and an NPC tells you to use them. Deals extra damage to Sprouts and Rootlings. Don't bother chasing down Lashrooms, just group the little ones
