If you suddenly cannot click on the NPCs to save, go back to Healer Selbekh (quest giver) and choose the dialogue option to re-summon Taivan.
There's a little RP segment that plays out each time where Taivan pulls the NPC to safety. I suspect he gets "too far away" during this segment and simply de spawns mid-quest. Very annoying.
