you can be confused. At first get 3 crystals [item=152357] ( you can get them killing mobs around ) and then press on [npc=125842] to activate them.

If you fall out of the quest area (specifically behind a building where one of the Household Vigilants is hiding) you will more than likely lose your crystals, meaning you have to start over on collecting them. I fell off the upper part, down a few feet, and exited the quest area. Two crystals gone, wasted.
