Mac'Aree has been mentioned since TBC, first by Jessera of Mac'Aree who described it as "the most sacred of our cities. Would you believe me if I told you that the walkways were lined with precious minerals? That the rivers glittered even in complete darkness?"
The Last Relic of Argus has the inscription "I long for Mac'Aree."
The Purple Hills of Mac'Aree describes it as "one of Argus' most illustrious cities".

In Legion it is a floating island separate from the rest of Argus, and so has mostly escaped fel corruption. In the skybox you can see that the city is much bigger than the area we can actually walk around in.

Jessera of Mac'Aree is named after Blizz employee Jesse McCree. Therefore Mac'Aree is also indirectly named after Jesse.
