Until Death Do Us Part

I have to say - this is one of the most beautifully well-written, and (unlike Yuriv's tomb) unforgettable quests that I've come across in almost two years of playing WoW.

This is actually one of my favorite quests in the game, mostly because it's one of the few quests, if not only, whose ending seems to lack the sort of redemptive accomplishment common to tragedy-ridden quests.

Similar quests that come to mind with happier endings than beginnings (or at least some sense of redemption) would be the Mor'Ladim line in Duskwood, the Shady Rest Inn line in Dustwallow Marsh, and Tirion Fordring's line in Eastern Plaguelands.

This quest, on the other hand, lacks anything that could be considered redeeming. A woman wants you to return a pendant to the grave of her deceased husband, who died trying to protect her and her children from the one thing they ultimately succumbed to. Were it up to her, she'd rather forget he ever existed. Such an errand might possibly have proven cathartic, but even this is blunted and ineffective.

In the end you realize that Yuriv has passed beyond memory and will be forgotten forever. A very terrible fate for a husband and father who died trying to protect his family.

A sad quest with an even sadder ending, one of those kind that makes you end up hating the world somehow.

This quest never fails to make me feel melancholy.
