Journeyman Riding

Yes thanks for the caps and all, but the questlines have absolutely NOT been removed. You can still do them if you like at level 60, or ignore them and wait till 61... That goes for both Paladins and Warlocks.

As of patch 4.0, training Journeyman Riding will allow you to ride ALL ground mounts at 100% speed. Even the lower-level 60% speed mounts that are trainable at level 20 will upgrade to 100% speed. This is a welcomed change! Now everyone can ride their lovely violet and turquoise raptors (and etc) without downgrading to 60% speed! :)

Come Cataclysm it won't matter as much, due to the upcoming ability to fly in Azeroth. However, there will still be chances to show off lower-level ground mounts in non-flyable areas like Wintergrasp and battlegrounds.

You don't have to do the quest chain to get the Paladin mount anymore, BUT...

...it's the only way currently available to get the Blood Knight tabard if you're a blood elf paladin. IMO this is one of the coolest tabards in the game, so I'm planning to go through the quest chain, even if it's expensive, to get it. Once you take the easy way out, the option to get the tabard is no longer available for that character.

Note that you have to spend an additional 100g (minus discounts) to buy the actual mount. The total cost, depending on your reputation with your faction of choice, amounts to:

• Neutral: 700 gold
• 
  
• Friendly: 665 gold
• 
  
• Honored: 630 gold
• 
  
• Revered: 595 gold
• 
  
• Exalted: 560 gold

This applies regardless of whether you buy it from your own 'home' faction or another racial faction (although you will need exalted to buy another race's mount). If you don't have enough gold and are close to the next reputation level, it might actually be faster to do a few low-level quests to get the reputation rather than to grind the additional gold.

For PvP mounts you only need the skill and only pay marks for the actual mount, but it will generally take significantly more time to get the PvP marks for a mount than it does to grind the gold for one.

Also, while you don't technically have to do the chain anymore there are a couple of advantages:

• If you're going for "the Seeker" title, those chains DO count towards that (not towards Loremaster though)

• If you're into the lore of Paladins in any sense, you really should do the chain at least once. On my first pally (before they made the Charger trainable) it was a major right of passage to go through the whole process, kindof like Verigan's Fist on steroids. The story/quest line for the charger is really rather good and it feels like quite a bit more of an achievement then just forking over the cash. That being said, however, on my current Paladin I think I'll be forking the cash... lol.

All in all, I think it makes sense that they made the quest non mandatory; it's crazy hard to find those DM, Strat, and Scholo groups anymore. Of course, any relatively OK 70 can solo those places and an 80 is like bringing a ICBM to a knife fight. So, make friends, lol.

As of (insert recent patch) you don't have to go to your specific race's riding trainer to train the differing levels of riding skills. I just bought Journeyman riding from the Ogrimmar riding trainer as a Tauren at reputation level revered. Just FYI.

The Journeyman Riding skill's level has now been decrease from 60 to 40 and the amount of gold has also been decrease to 50 (training) and 10g (mount). But when you reach level 40 you're presumably already in honored standing with you're home faction so the price will be 45g for training and 9g for mount.

The expert flyer mount training discounts also apply to Valiance Expedition and Warsong Offensive (not Alliance Vanguard or Horde Expedition) reputation. If you want the discounts, though, you do not want to visit Shadowmoon Valley or Dalaran for training.

I was leveling through invasions in Kharanos earlier, and when I dinged 71, I got this skill for free. I was really confused as I have never heard of this before. Does anyone know if that is intentional or a bug?

The paladin epic mount quest requires 6 arcanite bars 40 runecloth, 10 Arthas' tears, and 300 gold.

So if your Paladin has either mining or alchemy profession, it would probably be a lot cheaper to do the epic mount quest, plus you get a cool mount.

And the quest mount does not take a inventory slot :-)

Plus the paladin epic quest is about 99% easier than the warlock epic quest as far as what you have to do...its easily soloed by a level 70 as compared to the warlock quest which takes much more time and is not half as easy to solo. Paladins are better off getting the quest mount while warlocks are much better off grinding the extra 200g.

Death Knights can only purchase mounts of their own faction (A Troll Death Knight can only buy Darkspear Troll-mounts unless he is exalted with, say, Thunder Bluff for Kodo mounts.)

The pally quest is much too hard. I've already spend over 400g, done far too many quests in this line, I've been everywhere from Eastern Plaguelands to Dire Maul, and I still haven't gotten the thing yet because I have to now go fight someone in Scholomance... I broke down today and just spent 600g on training...

That was the last part, and would of been easy with a few 70's =(.

Well at level 60 I went to the Paladin trainer in Stormwind, and he still gave me the quest, but I don't think you have to do it. I really don't want to spend heaps of gold to find out.

This is not correct.
If you want to train Journeyman Riding with a different Race, you will need to be Exalted with said race.

I am a level 42 blood elf. I have journeyman riding in my spell book and it says to see my riding trainer. I went to the riding trainer outside Silvermoon City, but I can't upgrade my skill to journeyman. What am I doing wrong?

The riding skill no longer takes 900g

The arcanite bars can pose a problem since I have yet to meet an alchemist willing to blow their cooldown on them; personally, I was unwilling to reroll professions to Mining/Alch just for this quest. The Horde version also requires dark runes which puts you in the slight predicament of finding someone willing to go to Scholo for you. Soloing the quest lines at 70 is beside the point, imo; by then (and before that) it's less of a hassle paying 540g and PvPing for an epic mount. If you enter the queue (something) for any random BG while mounted (can be done via entering your Honor Panel by a hotkey, default H, and selecting Battlegrounds.) and then enter it, when you exit you will automatically mount but you will still have your pet out. I think you have to have your pet out in the BG too.

No idea about either but i dont think the developers reckoned that anyone would level to 71 while NOT learning the spell at level 40 ? And for the same reason i dont think that you will find anyone in game willing to test this 'bug' :-)

does anyone know how much the pally epic mount will cost if i buy everything off the ah for the blood elf quest chain?

Just to clarify, with regards Warlocks and the Dreadsteed mount....

At 61 go and see your respective race's riding trainer located at the respective city.... acquire the skill... costing 460G.... then go and see the warlock trainer who will then teach you how to summon your new 100% epic Dreadsteed.

YOU NO LONGER NEED TO DO THE LOOONG QUEST CHAIN.. THIS HAVE BEEN REMOVED AS OF PATCH 3.0.3 AND WOTLK....

Ok, well i have read the train and am a little confused, so please excuse my stupidity but i have a question, i have a deathknight and he already has a very fast riding mount.

I assume I do not need to get journeyman riding to get a flying mount, is that correct?

If that is correct is there anything i do need to do other than pay for my flying skill?

currently DK is level 68 so i believe i have a couple of levels to go before i can buy it anyway.

As of 3.0.?, at level 61 you can learn Summon Charger from your trainer. It's only 20g, may as well just wait one level.

Indeed, originally written in patch 2.2 However, I still think that the questline is in the game, perhaps they count for loremaster?

Does anyone know how much the discount for epic flying will be in upcoming patch while exalted with Warsong Offensive?

No this happened to me but I can't remember what level, they just automatically made me learn it. I did/do not want it and was really pissed. Came here to find out what level it was since I am playing an alt. They shouldn't make people have it, it's not game breaking and it's silly to force it.

On my server those Pristine Black Diamonds cost far more than the extra 200 gold required to buy the Riding Skill and a Mount. Total with exalted rep for buying the skill and mount will be about 630 gold. On average the questline will cost 350-400 gold without paying the rediculous 200+ gold price tag of the Pristine Black Diamond, not to mention I have never even seen an Azerorite diamond anywhere in the game. F*** the questline, I will farm the gold and buy my mount. Not to mention I think the Charger is ugly anyways.

Also, Pally quests take you into both Dire Maul and Scholomance, and parts of Strat too. So, though I haven't done it, I can't see it being much, if any, easier than the Warlock questline.

if you are Wlock you can complete the Q it you need to do the Q 550g but you get skill and mount free and DreadSteed is nice

i bet that the mount levels will keep going down until the lvl 20 mount gets to lvl1

I'm a level 65 Pally. I really do NOT have to go through the quest chain for my pally mount, and it was my understanding that I could get training for an epic mount from riding trainers when I'm at the right level. I have attempted to aquire training through paladin and riding trainers in two cities, yet none offer me training! Can anyone tell me WHY this is so?

what do Blood elf dk's get as mounts? and do dk's get a lower cost for there mounts and flying skill

It is actually something, and it takes up something called 'time' unless you just do quests and can't handle pvp of course.
