Expert Riding

Druids who train Flight Form (Journeyman (150) Riding Skill required) get Expert (225) Riding Skill for free, however will need to purchase Artisan (300) Riding Skill in order to be able to do the quest for the Epic Flight Form.

Druids get their Expert riding skill for free at level 68 by obtaining their Flightform.

It's been stated by Blizzard that there will be a epic Flightform Quest that will grant them 280% speed increase like normal Mounts, but it will require Artisan Riding skill (5000g).

Good thing for Druids and their Flightform: It's an Instant Cast so you can start Flying while falling off somewhere.

This was changed from 60% to 150%, a huge increase, very nice for those who can't afford 5k for Artisan flying, and now the jump from 60%->280% isn't nearly as large as 150%->280%.

Yes, like every other rep grind in the game, it's a 5% discount per increased rep.

With the level squish starting in pre-patch for Shadowlands, the new level you have to be to get Expert Riding (allowing you to fly) is 30. However, unless this is a glitch, if you had it before the level squish and are now under lvl30, you will still be able to fly; they did not take it from you. But I believe everyone else that did not have Expert Riding before the level squish will now have to wait until they reach 30.

I got this and Into the Wild Blue Yonder when I leveled 58, adding flight form to my Druid's travel form & allowing me to fly in Outland.

Is this faster for traveling than the usual 'taxi' gryphons?

Taxis are usually still faster unless they go way out of their way like say around the abyss areas of Outlands where there's no land.

My level DK got this for free when he dinged 71. Idk why, but it happened.

This is because Kildar doesn't teach this type of riding skill. Higher riding lessons (flying and such) is taught by Maztha up by the Zeppelin area. She is an Orc who appears to be sitting ontop of a Tawny Wind Rider across from the flight master. Search around that area and you should find her. Hope this helps some what! .

The riding trainer in Brill does not teach flying, and there is no flight trainer in Undercity. You have to go to Org or the Outlands if you're Horde.

Reputation and guild discounts.

With 7.3.5, Expert Riding now allows you to fly anywhere that is allowed. Flying in Kul Tiras and Zandalar becomes part of it in 10.0.7, and flying in Shadowlands still requires [item=185965].

The 280% flight speed, Artisan Riding, has been removed in the latest Shadowlands.

Not sure where you're getting those numbers, but you certainly don't receive 10,000 gold from quests over the course of 1-80. You receive perhaps 2,000-3,000. On average, 1,000 of that disappears to training 71-80 alone. If you have a tradeskill or two, that might consume the rest of it. Have two gathering skills and sell everything you find. You will be able to afford all of these skills and your mount. And certainly don't spend real money on a guide that will tell you what I just did.

I just reached level 60 and received my letter from Hargen Bronzewing inviting me to Honor Hold to learn to ride. Hargen says that he charges 600 gold for the training!

This must be an old file or a document glitch. I am Revered with Stormwind and so the training fee was actually 212g 50s--the usual discount from the 250g full price.

Mounts, however, are still 50g each.

It seems to be level 71 that you get it. I was being ran thru dungeons on my lowbie using the 300% xp potions so I didnt bother training riding at 60. Upon hitting 71, I got riding for free (to my confusion). Later when I was running my SO the same way (with potions), he got it at 71 too (he didnt train riding at 60 either). Guess it's a new thing

The "Taught By" tab is incomplete at the moment. If for whatever reason you can't return to the capital, you can still buy it from the trainers in TBC (Honor Hold/Thrallmar), some of the Wrath levelling zones (BT, HF, SB, SP, but not IC/DB/ZD), and the Pandaria Shrines. These have some niche uses, it be nice if you suddenly ding 30 in Northrend or if you're a Mage and have a portal to Pandaria!

Thankfully the need to train this skill is going away soon in 10.1.5 though, and you'll be able to immediately take off after levelling, which sounds amazing.

I am a level 61 blood elf paladin. I have the requisite gold and I am exalted with Orgrimmar, yet I cannot seem to learn Expert Riding from Kildar in Org. Is this a bug?

seems like death knights still need lvl 60. and it seems to be 60 for my monk too.. for now I've only seen it at 58 for druids.

Happened to me too.

That's right, as an undead mage and revered with undercity the lvl 60 mount cost me 510g for the riding skill 85g for the mount. I didn't think it was necessary to mention my reputation because being revered with your race faction is common when you are lvl 60.

With the exception of the non-Factioned trainers in Shadowmoon Valley, Dalaran, Storm Peaks, and Sholazar.

As of Patch 4.0.1, druids now pay for expert riding from a riding trainer like any other class. No more tremendous discounts for Flight Form. :(

Confirmed it is 58 for Druids.

This is all fubar. As a Blood Elf, I got a quest to visit Maztha in Orgrimmar at level 60 - who then wouldn't actually allow me to buy the expert riding for 225g, the pre-requisite for Flight Master's Licence. Someone helpful suggested it was a faction trained skill. So I head all the way back to Silvermoon City (where I'm exalted) to see my Riding Trainer there - guess what? Nothing.

Return to Orgrimmar once again. Now Maztha sells me Expert Riding. Go figure.

I got my monk to level 70 just to test this and nothing happened. she still doesn't have expert riding. Are you sure it's not from the quest "I believe you can fly" and not from getting to level 70? I've yet to test if it's that quest, so I'm unsure. My shaman has expert flying for some reason, and the only reason I could think of would be completing that quest.

I can confirm. I recently leveled a new DK alt (in October 2018) that did not have access to my main's gold supply. I never did manage to save up enough gold to buy flight, and when I dinged 71, I suddenly got it for free.

Although this is in the riding training section, you forgot the price of the mounts. I'll just add the flying mount costs, since those are the only ones I know. Cheapest flying mounts: Normal: 100g Epic: 200g This will add up to a total of 7510 with epic, 7410 with normal.

Confirmed, going to be implemented in the 2.1 patch. Get that skill druids! You're going to need 300 riding to start the quest!

Dude, make a new char.. lvl it to 80 and send all the money you get fro mquests to a bankchar.. from 1 to 80 you almost accumulate 10k gold alone from quests.. that's if you don't spend you money onuseless stuff or gear... i have 7 chars running now on my server and my bankchar has almost 10k gold just from questing alone... ( alott is gone already.. as i had to buy a few things) get the dereks gold making guide or something :p there are a few good tips in there to make easy gold!

And make sure to pick the right quest award that nets you the biggest amount of money after vendoring! Sellfish and VendorBait are nice add-ons that help you pick these most expensive rewards. Note that being geared up (Sunwell) on level 70 helps a lot because you can constantly vendor the most expensive item offered by a quest up to the level 80 quests.

Can also be trained (along with Artisan Riding) from Hira Snowdawn in Dalaran.

Friendly = 5% discount
Honored = 10% discount
Revered = 15% discount

it seems this was a bug and is now been fixed(patch 4.0.3) i just got it on my level 60 druid

so basically, what it says in the description is NOT true, "Expert Riding... can be discounted based on reputation from any race's faction trainer".. that is wrong. I have an undead character that just hit 60. I went to Brill to try to purchase expert riding there because I am exalted with Undercity. the riding master didnt offer this training. so if the only place outside of Outland to purchase expert riding is in Org, the only faction giving a rep discount will be Orgrimmar.. (or Thrallmar in Outland)

I am only Revered with Org and can get expert riding for 200 gold; will it get cheaper at exalted or is this as good as it gets?

Expert riding is now learned at 58! Edit: Only applies to druids and flight form. I hit lvl 58 in blackrock spire and learned flight form and expert flying. A quick jaunt to Outland confirms that as of 5.0.4 you can fly at 58, but only in Outland because you need to be lvl 60 to purchase a Flight Master's License to fly in Azeroth.

Never mind, I abandoned that quest on my new shaman and after 70 she had expert riding for seemingly no reason. Makes me wonder why my monk didn't learn it..

This no longer seems to be true, im leveling the last toons i didnt get to 100 during WoD up to 102 so i can try out all specs, and 2/3 that im leveling are 90 and did not get expert riding for free at 71

wanted to add to what leimi said, you dont have to go to the trainer in shadowmoon valley. i just bought my riding skill from the stable master in Orgrimmar. i was also Revered, so it was 510g for me.

I am having the same problem. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I wish you didn't have to learn journeyman riding before learning this skill. I never trained journeyman riding at 60 since I got an epic-speed wintersaber mount instead which only requires 75 riding skill. I did it to save money and because I didn't like the mechanostriders I was forced to ride as a gnome. Now I'm approaching 70 and I don't have the money for both journeyman training and expert training. Since there is no point in learning to fly at 70 anymore, at 77 I'm going to have to spend 2500 gold for journeyman riding, expert riding, and cold weather flying plus the cost of the mount itself. I have no idea how I'm going to do that with only 10 levels to go and only 350 gold at this point. The costs might make sense for people who have been playing at the level cap for years and have just been accumulating gold but for a new played who started since WotLK it's really quite dificult. Don't get me started about the cost of artisan riding, but I consider that a luxury more than a necessity like the basic flying mounts.

First off riding skills is expensive to skill up. As we all can see. Like many on this post I suggest you pick up a gathering skill to earn gold: Mining, Herbalism, and Skinning. Mining and Herbalism makes more gold usually on most server, but you have to find nodes to get them. While skinning you can kill and grind xp while farming. Also skinning trait give you additional criticals called Master of Anatomy and max your critical on 3.1.1 up too rating 32 at (450) skinning. Before you even hit 450 you will start farming in Northrend and skinning their will giving you a sigficant boost on income. I.e Borean Leather and Artic Fur if your lucky which since most things in the zones you can skin. Which make it easier for the 5,000 gold Artisian, but you still probably make more with the other 2 unless your in a high populated server that people are constantly mining and grabbing herbs then skinning be your best option. Eitherway I suggest start saving gold it's expensive skill. Good Luck

is this training eccential for cold weather flying?

U can save alot of money based on reputation here. Managed 2 save 40g revered with org - 37.5g off friendly with thrallmar- 2.5 g of mount in this case reputation does have good outcomes.

They get this for free? I thought they only got the form!
