TheWoWDBYes it does drop from Kil'jaeden (looted first try from normal) also the Codex of Xerrath does sadly not change them to a fel coloured embers :(

also they are invisible even to your friends and alies. i believe it's because Albert Einstein, who designed glyph in cata, that was making you shards become invisible in battle, was fired with his unic ideas, such as "notify that they are invisible in glyph's tooltip".
