The scene where Andy (Anne Hathaway) says "Can you please spell Gabbana?" occurs early in the film, when she is a new, inexperienced assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the formidable editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. When she's on the phone, taking a message, she encounters the name "Gabbana." Unfamiliar with it, she innocently asks for it to be spelled out: "Can you please spell 'Gabbana'?" The caller hangs up immediately after hearing this, expecting her to recognize a major designer like Dolce & Gabbana as Miranda's assistant.
