Kill the Flame Leviathan on the second tier of hard mode on normal difficulty.

There are 4 defence towers in the gauntlet leading to the Flame Leviathan which can be activated by talking to the Lore Keeper of Norgannon before talking to Brann to start the gauntlet. Activating a tower and leaving it intact will activate a unique Orbital Defense System on the Leviathan. Each Defense System grants the Leviathan an extra ability, increases his health by 50% (multiplicative!), gives him a unique buff, converts all dropped Emblems of Valor to Emblems of Conquest and increases the number of Emblems. Killing the Leviathan with 2 Defence Systems active is the second tier of hard mode and allows the raid to get the Orbital Devastation achievement and 2 Emblems of Conquest.

The Leviathan gains 125% HP and two of the following abilities when 2 Defense Systems are active:

0 Towers | 1 Towers | 2 Towers | 3 Towers | 4 Towers
HP [mln] 23 | 35 | 52 | 78 | 116
Emblems 1 Valor |2 Conquest|2 Conquest|3 Conquest|3 Conquest
Loot normal | normal | normal | normal | Normal + hard

Our first time took us four attempts. First two attempts were spent figuring out that our chopper driver wasn't good enough. Switched him to a different position and got the boss to 4%, then downed him with zero deaths on the next attempt.

Since I don't see any tips about how to do this I'll give a few.

  1. Thorim's Hammer is considered the easiest of the towers to leave up for +1. For what it's worth, I absolutely concur.

  2. One tower is much easier if you do [Shutout] as well. Our first +1 kill took around two minutes to down FL using [Shutout] . This way your demo drivers can fire pyrite barrels the entire fight, which stack and do a literal #$%^ ton of dmg at the full ten stacks.

  3. For +2 you're going to want to cause system overloads, but there is a trick so you can still get the maximum pyrite stacks from your demo drivers.
    a) Prior to engaging the last few pulls before FL, have one of your ranged load themselves into one of the demos. Have another ranged get in the passenger seat of your demo, and run with only one chopper. This way you can launch someone on turrets immediately, but still have someone on your demo to fire pyrite.
    b) The ranged who starts loaded and the ranged who rides shotgun should swap after every overload, while the passenger of the second demo never gets launched. This way you have two gunners working your most powerful attack the entire fight.

  4. You can choose to leave either Mimiron's Inferno or Hodir's Fury up as your second tower, but I would advise against Freya's Ward. The roaming ice beams of Hodir's Fury are probably a little easier to spot than the fire orbs which fall from the sky during Hodir's Fury. although we usually do Mimiron's.

    • Hope this helps!
