You took everything that Thrall worked so hard to build, and PISSED all over it.

You took the honor and good reputation of the horde, and burned it to the ground in your mad bid for power.

You took the lives of some of the greatest heroes of the horde, and tossed them asides to sate your hunger.

You killed Cairne, and tried to kill Vol'jin.

You corrupted the youth of the orc society with your propaganda and hate.

You desecrated Gorehowl, one of the most sacred weapons of the horde, and patrimony of your own father.

You brought another form of enslavement, worse than demons, OLD GODS for crying out loud, upon your race

You sullied our walls with the filth of your own pride and hypocrisy.

The horde is less than what it was due to you and you alone.

This is personal, I'm killing this sucker EVERY WEEK from the day this raid goes live, to the day I stop playing wow.

Its not about the loot. Its not about the mount. Its not about the title. Its not about Achievements. Its not about pets or vanity items. Its not about prestige. Its all about revenge.

/salute.

Edit: nevermind SPOILER soooooo with the reveal of the ending of MoP as well as plot details of the next expansion, not only garrosh DOES NOT dies in this raid, he escapes, and starts everything all over again with a new bunch of orcs. So....... this entire raid was pointless. Anticlimax doesn't even begin to describe how I feel.

This is an informational post about the various rewards that involve defeating Garrosh Hellscream, ranging from achievements to heirlooms to everything in between. This had been continuously updated until the launch of Warlords of Draenor. Please note that some information had been retained for historical purposes, but I have made notes where necessary for clarity.

This post has been updated to reflect changes in Warlords of Draenor, released on November 13, 2014! Keep the Flex/Normal/Heroic/Mythic name changes in mind when reading through this post. I will likely no longer be maintaining this post unless very noteworthy changes are made to Garrosh rewards in the future.

Achievements and Feats of Strength
Downfall - Defeating Garrosh Hellscream is one of the requirements to complete this achievement. This can be earned in all difficulties.
Conqueror of Orgrimmar (Alliance) and Liberator of Orgrimmar (Horde) - Earned by defeating Garrosh Hellscream on Heroic difficulty. Earning one will grant the other faction's equivalent, and you will be granted an account-wide title of the same name. As expected, you must be level 90 before you can display the title on alts.
Mythic: Garrosh Hellscream - Earned by defeating Garrosh Hellscream on Mythic difficulty and grants the title "Hellscream's Downfall"

Strike! is Garrosh's achievement requirement for the Glory of the Orgrimmar Raider meta achievement.
Please see that achievement's page for more information.

~

Unlike previous raid tiers, Garrosh had Feats of Strength for Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge for both 10- and 25-man difficulties, rather than one shared between the two.

As of Patch 6.0, these Feats of Strength, and the reward from them, are no longer obtainable.

Ahead of the Curve: Garrosh Hellscream (10 player) and Ahead of the Curve: Garrosh Hellscream (25 player)
^ Rewards [item=104246] ^
Cutting Edge: Garrosh Hellscream (10 player) and Cutting Edge: Garrosh Hellscream (25 player)

There were also two Guild Feats of Strength for claiming the Realm First Heroic defeat of Garrosh Hellscream.
Realm First! Garrosh Hellscream (10 player) and Realm First! Garrosh Hellscream (25 player)

Miscellaneous Loot Info
1. In addition to normal drops, Garrosh drops "Essence of the Cursed _____" tokens.* These can be traded in at your faction's shrine for any tier token. Perfect for completing your 4P or starting an off-set! They drop from all difficulties, and will obviously give you tier appropriate for that difficulty. You can bonus roll them!
*Example token: [item=105857]

2. In Heroic and Mythic difficulty, Garrosh has a ridiculously miniscule chance to drop [item=103785] (yes, it can be Warforged). Not only are these well itemized with 3 red sockets, but they also use the model of Garrosh's iconic shoulders! We all know you want to transmog those.

3. [item=104253] has a small drop chance on Mythic difficulty only. Prior to Warlords of Draenor, this mount was guaranteed to drop.

Heirloom Loot Info
During Mists of Pandaria, Garrosh dropped Level 90-100 Heirloom Weapons that used the old Horde PvP models. These items are no longer obtainable, and thus all of the information below was retained for reference to a piece of WoW history.

1. Heirloom weapons are personal loot regardless of difficulty, however since Normal also uses personal loot, it is worth noting that the heirloom roll is not the same as your loot roll. You can win both an item and an heirloom from the same kill.

2. Heirloom weapons do not drop off of LFR. They only drop off of Normal, Heroic, and Mythic and have an appropriate iLevel based on where it dropped.

3. (This bullet was heavily edited for clarity.) You were not guaranteed an heirloom upon defeating Garrosh until 6.0, at which point you had a 100% chance per difficulty, per character, for your first heirloom. With the release of Warlords of Draenor, the heirlooms were removed from his loot table.

4a. The heirloom weapons cannot be upgraded, however they are 16 iLevel higher than other items in the same difficulty, which is equal to a 4/4 item upgrade.
4b. They cannot drop as "Warforged".

5a. The first weapon that you win will be appropriate for your loot-specialization. If you are fortunate enough to win one of these, you will get a weapon relevant to you. (As an example, a hunter's first heirloom WILL be [item=105670].) Even if you have a better weapon already (such as a Heroic when a Normal item dropped), I recommend keeping the heirloom, as it will outlast your current item as you level up. Not to mention, they can be used for transmogrification!
5b. After your first heirloom, you can win any other heirloom from his loot table regardless of class or loot specialization.
5c. The item for your spec is separate for all difficulties. Therefore, your first successful heirloom roll on Normal will grant an appropriate weapon, as it will in Heroic and Mythic. You do not need to avoid doing lower difficulties in fear that some invisible, malevolent force will steal your upgrades away.
5d. You can receive the same heirloom from the same difficulty in subsequent kills. Keep your fingers crossed that you get new ones!

6. You cannot receive Garrosh Heirlooms from Bonus Rolls. After much debate and conflicting information, it has been confirmed that they cannot be coined.

7. Heirlooms from each difficulty will progressively equal out as you level. Upon reaching level 100, the heirloom stats will all be equal, regardless if it is Normal or Mythic!

A full list of heirlooms can be found in Garrosh's Loot Table, or in a more organized fashion here, in Xabidar's Heirloom Guide!

After defeating Garrosh Grom Hellscream appear.
Garrosh: Father? Is it... over?
Grom lays a comforting hand on Garrosh' gauntlet.
Grom: At long last. No warchief rules forever, my son.
Garrosh: I see... only darkness... before me...
Garrosh' eyes roll back into his head and he dies, his hand falling to the ground. Grom closes his son's eyes and gently lays him on the ground as walks in.
Grom: Without its master's command, the restless Horde will become an even greater threat to this world.
Grom stands, facing Thrall.
Grom: Control must be maintained... There must always be... a Warchief...
Grom' ghost disappear, and Thrall shields his eyes from the blinding Gorehowl. Thrall picks up the mantle of Warchief and examines it.
Thrall: The weight of such a burden... it must be mine. For there is no other to—
Beaten Vol'jin appear.
Vol'jin: Thrall... You hold a grim destiny in your hands, brother... but it is not your own.
Thrall: Vol'jin... by all that is holy...
Vol'jin: The Y'shaarj darkness... sealed my fate. The world of the living can no longer comfort me. Place the mantle of the Warchief on me, Thrall..
Thrall turns his back on Vol'jin, preparing to walk away.
Thrall: NO, old friend. I cannot.
Vol'jin: DO IT THRALL! You and these brave heroes have your own destinies to fulfill. This last act of service... is mine.
Thrall: You will not be forgotten... brother.
Vol'jin: I MUST be forgotten, Thrall If the world is to live free from the tyranny of the Horde – they must never know what was done here today.
Thrall nods The chamber begins to shake violently. There is a flash of light and Vol'jin's eyes are glowing red.
Vol'jin: Tell them only that the Warchief is dead...
Vol'jin: and that Vol'jin died with him...
Vol'jin: NOW GO. LEAVE THIS PLACE – AND NEVER RETURN.

Abilities & Strategy

Overview

Garrosh calls in Kor'kron soldiers, while Siege Engineers try to activate Iron Stars that crush players and orcs in their path. When Garrosh reaches 10% health, he draws upon the Heart to heal himself. Garrosh periodically pulls all players into the Realm of Y'Shaarj, where they must interrupt his efforts to draw power from the Heart. When reaching 10% health a second time, Garrosh fully drains the heart, empowering all his abilities until his defeat.

Damage Dealers
  • During the initial phase, interrupt Far Seers' casts and kill at least one Siege Engineer per wave.
  • In the realm of Y'Shaarj, defeat all Sha manifestations to prevent Garrosh from gaining energy.
  • Damage afflicted players to break the Touch of Y'Shaarj, and interrupt them to prevent the affliction from spreading.
  • Once Garrosh reaches 25 energy, Empowered Whirling Corruption spawns Minions of Y'Shaarj that gain great power if killed near each other.
Healers
  • During the initial phase, Exploding Iron Stars deal heavy raidwide damage that decreases with distance from the impact point.
  • Once Garrosh's shield in the Realm of Y'Shaarj is broken, his Annihilate will deal heavy raidwide damage.
  • Whirling Corruption deals heavy raidwide damage that decreases the farther a target is from Garrosh.
Tanks
  • During the initial phase, Garrosh will use Hellscream's Warsong to significantly increase the damage output of his Kor'kron minions.
  • After leaving the Realm of Y'Shaarj, Garrosh's attacks will inflict Gripping Despair, which increases in damage with each application.
  • Once Empowered, Whirling Corruption spawns Minions of Y'Shaarj that gain great power if killed near each other.
